Sure enough, Tamiya makes a light weight version of the ring gears...

Haha clamp type hex...imagine that! Did you buy a pallet of them or what I wonder why they used the metal gear and heavy prop shaft I guess all in keeping with the theme of offroad type rally car, but the car is still light, like you say I doubt it would trash a regular plastic gearset. I have jumped the dark impact plenty without a slipper and haven't had a problem with it's gears. Plus I think tamiya has better grease for plastic gears (ceramic) than they do for metal (anti wear etc)

I love the 6mm clamp type hex.. Let's just say that I have enough to last me awhile...
Yeah, I think it is just the old school design. For my purpose, I am building a scale looking rally car, I doubt that it would matter that much. But a set of those lightweight plastic gear is only like $9 shipped, so I might just go for that. The carbon shaft is too expensive! (I wish it is around $15, I'd get it.. !)
We will see.. I guess I am just not sure if I want to hop it up w/ everything knowing that it will probably be used once or twice only and sit on the shelf.. but I guess that has never stopped me before..

Looks like there's a cheaper alternative! Tamiya makes an aluminum version of the center shaft! And it is much cheaper!!
I will probably just go for that!!

Is it a TB-01?! Can you post a pic?!
The battery itself does not determine the stress put on the drivetrain.. the other part of the equation is the motor / ESC, so it is hard to answer your question without knowing the other part of the setup that you plan to run!
Good luck!!

TT-01 is a different chassis compare to the TB-01. You might want to search for a TT-01 thread!!
Posting picture is easy, just click on post reply, and then you can attach pictures. I suggest you do a search on this topic as well.

Stock TB-01 steel shaft -> 48g
Aluminum version?! 16g
Exactly 1/3 the weight!
You definitely feel it when you hold both in your hands!!

S3010 will do the steering duty..
Got a couple of S3050 digital servos w/ metal gear, but I think I am going to save those for my DF-03 resurrection project..
