Most of the combat discussed here does not involve Jets or crashing into each other. The 2 most popular methods are 1) Cutting crepe paper streamers from each opponant's plane. Or 2) Electric planes that use a module to cut power to the opponants plane.

With an electronic module in each plane. The sensor recieves a beam from the opponant's plane that cause it to reduce the throttle setting for a set period of time.

Well, given the cost, people generally try to avoid damaging their planes.
However, there are a couple of forms of full-contact combat. Slope combat, using EPP foam gliders, and "zagi" combat using small flying EPP foam wings with electric motors in a pusher configuration. EPP foam can "bounce", and the very light weight of these kinds of planes keep the impact forces to a manageable level.
The most organized form of combat is the glow-engine powered streamer cutting type. But the slope and electric full-contact stuff is popular in some areas.

I dunno, I never flew one. But there are apparently flying wings used for that kind of thing from several companies. And I'm sure you will find people who say one is better than another. The Zagi was first (I think, I could be wrong), and the others are either "imitations" or "improvements", depending on how you see it, I guess

There are two groups of flyers that do the full contact combat. One of the is the slope soraing gliders that will fly everything from flying wings to semi scale fighters. It is a great thing if your are not in flat lands. We fly the Zagi kind of full contact combat and it is a hoot.
The plane is EPP foam and the prop is a small pusher type.
