so where do all of you guys get the injection molded or fibreglass aircraft. I really want to get into rc combat eventually but I have been told that the normal balsa/ ply constructions will not stand up to this kind of flying.

Your best bet is to buy a kit for your first plane.
If you want to experiment from there it is up to you.
Avengers are good http://www.teamseaholm.com/rccombat/rccombat.asp
A couple guys at our club fly slashers http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFLC3&P=0
And one or two fly Gremlins, but I think they are upgrading this year.
But first you need to pick a class or find out what others at your club are flying , ie. Open B, SSC etc.
so here is a link to RCCA http://www.rccombat.com/
and there are lots of other kit suppiers also.

If you are thinking of 12th scale combat then in the UK most people fly blue foam and brown paper. Strong light and easy to repair. Most cut there own but Mainly Models Hitchin do kits. The Hurricane is propably the best one to start with and has won lots of comps. They also do a Hellcat for 25s.
If you want a mini masterpiece there are some cottage industry kits from eastern europe that are works of art. Very light moulded fuz and precovered wings with printed film including panel line details. If you want more details PM me and I will dig up some URLs for you.

hey guys thanks... I am most interested in scale looking combat planes, I am pretty sure that is what they fly at my local club... mostly the planes are small enough to hand launch

Hi Mienshnake,
Cobble Hills Fighter Group fly Maac scale combat almost every Sunday. The field is NE of London. Great, fun loving pilots.
The planes are made from coro, have been developed over 7-8 yrs and are very tough. (I know, I think I'm the only one left building with foam/balsa
) We use stock O.S.25s without the baffle.
There is some info on the Combat forum at www.rccanada.ca
I PM'd you with my ph#. Easier for me than this steam powered computer...
R/C Combat is the most fun you can have with a model airplane,
Take care,
Have fun,

P.S. Hi j.duncker,
Great looking Hurri's, Spit and 109's. Got any links for the foam/brown paper construction methods?
I'd like to try it. Thanks.

Most of these are foam / brown paper http://www.aircombat.bezstarosti.cz/...ly/fotomod.htm
Just get some brown wrapping paper, cut to shape slightly coversize, apply pva thinned about 50% with water to the dull side leave a couple of minutes and apply to foam and leave to dry. If it was a wing do not panic when you go to do the other side, yes it will be badly bowed but it will flatten out when you do the other side. That brown paper really shrinks. If there is still a bow or warp after you have covered both sides just brush on some water [ or very dilute pva ] and use a hair dryer or film heat gun to dry the side you want to shrink first. I apply a total of two coats 50/50 pva water then rub down with 400 grade. paint on a sealing layer of Flexcoat [ does not attack blue foam. ] then paint as required. As I fly combat I do not aim for a concours finsh but a concours finish is possible with a little extra sanding. The resultant stressed skin structure is surprisingly rigid. I can not remember ever seeing a wing fold in combat.
Here are some of mine.

cross check I don't need to give you my phone # I am sure I will find you at the field. I don't expect to find myself flying in london unless there is a good reason for me to drive 2 hours
