I was getting close building my own knockoff of the Battle Axe (built 2 versions) but time is running out so I just bought the real thing.
I'm curious to see how close my design is to the original?

I think this is a smart move and a cheap education. You can take what you learn from it and possibly leap frog ahead with your own ideas.
I've broken 3 crankcases from pile driver type crashes in SSC [flying my own design]. One thing I never developed was an engine mount to solve that.
I've always felt that the best point of view is "bend but don't break".

Battle Axe's are excellent combat models and they are a lot of fun to fly as a sport plane too. If you take it straight up and cross control just before it stalls, you can get it to do a flat spin. How about that? Spins with no rudder!

The Battle Axe that Alex kits and sells are the best entry to SSC. I used to fly a ton of SSC and my flying buddy and I flew a derivative of the Battle Axe and won a ton of events. Our main differences where that we flew blatter tanks and our engines had modified back plates from the standard plastic back plate on an OS .15. I have a garage full of them if you guys want to buy one. 60% of the plane parts can be bought from Home Depot and Lowe's. Usually they'd even survive a "Yard Dart" after a head on collision in combat.
