RE: Gremlin help
I have a 10X7 so I will give that a try. I know it's cheap but I wanted to see if I could get a cheap enough set up that newbie's would try it and also if you have a midair that is a total loss ( rare) you won't go home to sad[:o]

RE: Gremlin help
It looks like the motor throws magnets according to the reviews. Bring your CA to the field! ;)
|
RE: Gremlin help
Hey ! don't be bad mouthing my motor[>:] HA already applied my ca :) The screw issue seems to be solved because they put long and short screws in my package. Not that should be a problem HELLO ! when the srews are to long cut them!. You need to watch the test video about the motor they address those problems

RE: Gremlin help
Wow! Thats pretty good... For $15 you get a instructional video too!:)

RE: Gremlin help
Hi Guys,
I caught the word Gremlin in the forums list and came right here. I have built a Gremlin and she flys very well. Some time ago I ordered two more sets of everything, but haven't opened the box yet. My first Gremlin is still in good flying condition (no one does combat at my club) after 5 years. If anyone still wants copies of the planes, building photos and rules of engagment I have them, let me know. |
RE: Gremlin help
We are getting that knack for combat back here in the North East... The electric Gremlins are catching on and guys are getting competitive once again. This is my second season and I love it. You should fire up the old Gremlins and generate some interest in the aerial blood sport back in your neck of the woods.

RE: Gremlin help
I agree with Steve, get out there and fly with a streamer and you'll even get trainers to chase you. The best way to generate interest is to let people fly one. Or get a buddy to build one of the other kits and chase each other. Pretty soon you'll have the interest of others when they see the fun you are having.
I would appreciate if you didn't distribute photocopies of the instructions. I do retain the intellectual property rights to them. There are building websites around including [link]http://www.snhflyingeagles.org/pdf_files/GremlinConstructionPhotos.pdf[/link] which I link to from my website but the instructions and updates were a lot of personal effort and go beyond the original RCM article |
RE: Gremlin help
Jim,
I apologize, I certanly didn't mean to cause any loss to you. I was trying to be helpful...that's all. I will, in the future, keep Gremlin planes to myself. By the way, thanks for all your hard work over the years. Mike |
RE: Gremlin help
no problem. I just had someone duplicate the instructions years ago and then sell inferior hand cut cores with them but since he had left my contact information on them, I had to deal with his irate customers. I have no problem with people creating their own kits, I just want to retain the instructions, that is my value added. People have made kits based on the RCM article lots of times. I did redo the instructions a couple of years ago to include construction photos so I hope people are finding them better now.
Get out there and fly and have a ball. Most people are afraid to try the plane because they think it will be hard to fly because it looks so different but 2 minutes of stick time makes them reconsider. And I meant what i said about flying with a streamer. Even the trainers can't resist a couple of passes at it |
RE: Gremlin help
Take up toilet paper and drop it for them to take trys at cutting. They'll like that enough to want to go after streamers next.
|
RE: Gremlin help
Make it a real long streamer as long as your Gremlin can pull it that way they can get after it without feeling like they are close to a mid air. Anyone needs to know what Gremlin engine - prop combo works good just ask. I will be happy to send some of the combo's ( NITRO COMBO'S ) That seem to work good for me. I have been trying to work on some build video's but it's going slow because I have been busy with very important other things. OK! OK! I have been out flying!

RE: Gremlin help
Coreman, please forgive me if this is from way too long ago. Also, this will be my first ever post on something like this.
I saw the picture of your Mini Gremlin, and a friend and I would really like to build 2 of them. Do you have plans, or at least directions, for building them? If so, how could we get them? Thank you. <br type="_moz" /> |
RE: Gremlin help
Oh man Sparky! Coreman is getting ready to debut them this weekend! you could be the first ones to get them! It's best to check www.racores.com to see the updates but I'm sure when come out of the Coreman area 51 / skunkworks he will respond! I used an eflite 400 with a 8x7 nitro prop on a proto and it moved out pretty good ( 3 cell) With all the stuff available in that size you will hear a bunch of different combo's that work good.
|
RE: Gremlin help
They are now available as kits on [link=http://www.racores.com/]our website[/link] and will be shipping next week. We are also taking PayPal for your ordering convenience (allows us to accept credit cards finally). Shipping is per order so order two at once and save.
The [link=http://www.racores.com/GremlinStand.pdf]plans for the stand[/link] are on the website and for the mini I just cut all the lengths in half and used 1/2" tubing. Once i thought of it I couldn't resist. (sorry, I try not to self promote and be commercial in the forums) |
RE: Gremlin help
coreman-can you put a 1/2a engine on the mini? thanks Erik
|
RE: Gremlin help
That is what I threatened our local electric guy with. It's just a firewall front end, I see no problem mounting one with a tank mount
|
RE: Gremlin help
Coreman, thanks much to you and to BRNRBBR for the quick replies. My friend has ordered 4 of the Mini Gremlins, 2 for himself ( he loves the big gremlins), 1 for me, and 1 for my son. We hoping to receive them by Sept 20, which would be fantastic. Our main response when we saw them on the RACORES website was " WOW!!!!!!". We can hardly wait.

RE: Gremlin help
Sorry if I was unclear. they will SHIP on the 20th. I will be at the NEAT fair before the weekend and won't be able to send them out before monday.
Do you need separate boxes or can I bulk ship them? |

RE: Gremlin help
Guys! I have been trying to "Electrify" a Gremlin using a 42-50 motor I had laying around(should equal a "Power 32"),and a 4s 4000mah battery.I've flown it,but the performance wasn't very impressive.
I think I see my problem. You are giving weights just under 3 pounds.Does that include the battery??I built a "Shortened" version, and my all up weight is 3 pounds 10 and half ounces. |
RE: Gremlin help
we are also using 3000mah 3s packs which saves some weight. are you doing anything special to the plane to support the electric? I built just the stock plane and put a vertical firewall where the fuselage is totally square and mounted my motor there. I did have to slide the fuselage about 1.5" forward to achieve the balance at 1.75" behind the LE and I slide the battery up against the firewall when I fly (again for balance point)
4000mah 4s pack is running about 450g while a 3000mah 3s pack runs about 275g, that's a 6+oz difference in battery alone |

Well Hello,
Yes weight is a major factor to flying Gremlins well. Over the past 2 seasons I have slowly been perfecting the Electric Gremlin to perform at or above the performace the Gassers/ Slimers enjoy. :D This has not been an easy task, but there are two major factors to building a hot EG (Electric Gremlin) 1) Try to get the weight down to around 3LBS +/- 4oz. 2) Use high KV motors in the 1100KV range. Your 4 Cell packs are killing you and most likey making it hard to hand launch your plane. Remember you only need to compete for only 3 minutes and keep one minute to spare. I have attached data from my current Combat Gremlin If you have more Question give me a shout. Steve The Electric Guy;) |
