I purchased this some time ago and I have yet to make use of it mainly because I didn't know how much user input you need for it to stay in control. For myself it doesn't matter much but I am getting my daughter into drifting and want to give her instant gratification and eventually ween her off the dbox. I need serious advise here about using the dbox so please no opinions about whether this should be used in the first place. Any constructive instruction is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Yah, the D-Box is not needed, but for your daughter, a good way to get her started, until she gets the hang of countersteer correction. Just dial out the gain slowly, once she gets used to a particular setting, so the wheels don't turn as much each time you adjust. Then once she's weaned off the box, put it on an off-road car or truck. It'll do much better there, and will make the car or truck much faster! You'll notice you can corner faster in the dirt with a D-Box!
The D-Box DOEShave it's uses!
It willbe of bigger benefit off-road, than on, though.

Ok but my question is...when you enter a drift and the gyro takes over, do you counter steer or 'let go' so the dbox does its thing???

Oh, yes, the D-Box countersteers INITIALLY, then releases control back to the driver. This all happens within a second. What it does is reacts to the slide. When you dial out the gain, it lessens the amount of "steer" the D-Box gives, but retains some of the speed of reaction time. Your daughter will still need to control the drift, once it is initiated, the D-Box just helps get the car sideways without spinning out. This allows your daughter to learn what she needs to do, in order to control a drift.
Turning down the gain, while SLOWLY decreasing the radius of turns over time is a good way for her to pick up her skills. She will learn how to keep the car from spinning out, theless gain there is. Once the D-box is turned down so low that the wheels barely turn, or not at all, is the time it should be removed. Your daughter should be drifting on her own, very well by then!
