Default How do differentials work?

Ive always wondered how differentials work in cars? Ive been in RC for a while now, but Ive never truly understood how they work. I think it works like this: if you are turning, the diffs allow one tire to move faster than the other, so as to get more traction or something? Im pretty clueless though, and i figure drifitng is one sport where differentials are very important, so Im guessing this is the best place for my quesiton?

Also, how does locking the diff help in drifitng?

thanks a lot

Ya a differential lets one tire move faster then the other so you can turn better in drifting IMO i think u need a limited slip or a locker. a Limited slip makes the tires turn more evenly so when u want to slid the rear u have both tires spinning (not one)and a locker makes the tires spin together so their locked together[8D]

hope this helps

yes this is true but lockers are not good for street, they are very hard on the differential
