I'm confused on the whole thing about putting the abs in the oven/boiling water to soften it. I have SOME idea, but i need to make sure. You smooth the wheel down so it's flat right? And then fit the soft abs over it?I wish someone made a turorial on this(in one post and with clear instructions). I've tried searching, but couldn't find it.

I thought about this then decided against it because it means faffing around every time you want to fit new tyres, so I skimmed about 0.5mm off the rim of the wheels and they were just a nice tight fit in the plastic tyres.

Now all I have to do is do a simple (and easy) replacement when I wear the tyres out

I Used a Well Ventillated Fan forced oven and a Baking tray, heated up the ABS till soft, then Shoved them over the rim
I use the same practice for PVC and they go on good and Tight

Don't you get sick of doing that every time they need replacing?

so the verdict is that you can either

------soften the abs/pvc(either by boiling or baking) and fit it to the trimmed wheel???
------or
------just trim some extra meat off and kinda force it on???

????????????

trim the wheel once, fit replacement tyres as easy as pie...and dead fast too

I have mounted a couple sets of abs tires on to HPI rims. Boiling is really easy and very fast. I guess I never brought the water to boil but just when it starts to steam and you can still put your hand in the pan. I took a file and beveled the tire slightly so that it would snap on easier. I could mount a set of tires in about ten minutes from start to finish.

Nope I prefer baking , once the PVC/ABS cools around the rim there is very little risk of it detaching mid drift..
Removal is easy, Hacksaw Blade and a steady hand and we are ready to go again..

i didnt boil or bake...some people swear by a rubber mallet but for mine i needed to tape the rim or else the pip was like 1mm too big. so i just put too much tape on the rim to puch it on by hand them rubber malleted em
