This is my first on-road 4WD car and I got it specifically for drifting. It's the xxx-s rtr2. I just thought I'd post my car, and let you know there is one more drifter out there.

When I first got it I: re-oiled my shocks with 32.5 weight, took the whole car apart to get familiar with the parts, oiled bearings, took the diffs apart (i didn't lock them, don't think I will need to).

I then put my JR xr3i radio in it. I put the xr2i into my mini-t. The xr2i has less set up features and is am. My mini-t will be good with it.

Got a Lotus Elise body from hpi, (see if you can point out the mess ups on the paint job, what I'm new to airbrushing, usually use spray cans).

I went to home depot and got a big piece of abs pipe for drift tires. I will also try pvc pipe.

Then I was having trouble with the wires melting together. So I put 12 guage noodle wire on and deans connectors. FYI, it is very difficult to put 12 guage on that tiny esc.

I'm borrowing my dads temp. guage for now, it is getting up to 175 half way through a battery, so I ordered two Novak fans and a motor heat sink. Hopefully that will help. Another factor is that it's 106'F in Bakersfield on hot asphalt.[X(]

Well, I think thats about all I've done. I want to get the threaded shocks, but as you can see I'm completely out of money^^^^^^^^^^. Tell me what you think so far.[8D]

Love the paint and is it the motor getting that hot? If so try regearing.

How exactly do you gear a drifter? It has the stock gears, 22 pinion and I'm not sure on the spur gear.

I ran it last night, it was a little cooler outside. It barely broke 155. The problem is that it doesn't get much airflow because its drifting. If I put a fan on it and it is cooling it even when I stop, it should keep it down. Running it in the evenings also helps.

That is one clean and well put together car.

I was going to get the car no matter what, but one thing I thought would be cool is that it wouldn't get dirty like my others. WRONG, I was surprised by how dirty it got. I'm guessing because it's not an open wheel car, it puts a thin layer of dust on everything. One pass with the air compressor though and it's clean. I had just ran it before I took the pics above.

What turn motor you running? What is your differential gear ratio?

Everything is stock. The things listed above are all i've done to it.

I need to know what turn motor you are runnign and also gear differentils ratio so I can calculate the gaering you need.

My owner's manual says it has 41t and 42t diff. pulleys. I'm not sure but I think the 42t goes in the rear.

The motor is a Trinity 19 turn.

Ask roy he might now the gear ratio. Also check out drcc and post in the team losi forum over there. They will probably be able to tell you pretty quick.

Also how do you mount your drift tires? I used ac glue. It probably wasn't the best idea since I will have to change the tires every once in a while. They are down to the rims now and I am going to cut them off and redo them. I was thinking about useing silicone. What do you use?

I use tape wrapped around the rim. Also keep a very close eye on that motor to make it doesn't overheat.

Well, I got the Integy heatsink and two novak fans on Friday and hooked them up this weekend. They seem to work fine plugged into the reciever (they didn't come with any directions).

I would say that it helps a lot. I can run a whole battery through it (ib3800), and if I take it easy it stays around 180' at the highest temp. Before I could only run half a battery and it would easily get that hot before I stopped. It once got to 200'.

It helps but I think 180' is still a bit hot. I would like to get it down to 140' at least. That sounds like a safe temp. Do you think I should gear it down? I don't want to get very technical about gearing, but if I experiment should I try gearing up or down from the stock gearing.

Also we will be camping in the mountains all next week. We leave this friday morning and I would like to solve this by then.

What kind of tape would be good? I tried some gray electrical tape and it worked nicely for about 20 seconds, very grippy, and then it looked like I had a bunch of flats. Tape flew everywhere.

I also put new abs pipe on my rims last night. The ca glue actually worked very well. I just cut it in half and with a screwdriver I popped the rest of the pipe off. I only glued the insides of each tire. and I will try re-gearing today.

If you're looking for a good pair of street tires (not drifting), These things rule. This is the only tire allowed for racing at my track, so I got a pair. The hottest my motor got with these tires was 120', and it hauls butt and doesn't slide at all.

The tire in Italics isn't the abs pipe. It's a rubber slick tire, I just gave you the info on it in case you wanted a good street tire.

Well, I thought I would update my progress with my drifter. It is now working great. I can run a whole battery through it in the middle of the day when it's about 100' outside and the motor heats up to 153'. That is the hottest it has gotten and I run it nonstop full out.

Since my last post, I have burned up the stock trinity motor. Once I took a look at it, I realized that it really is a piece of junk. I ordered a Trinity Komodo Dragon and wow, it works amazingly and has so much power. It also has ball bearings which probably helps keep it from getting to hot. I also geared it down two teeth. It actually had a 24t and I went to a 22t. They are the same pitch as my other losi cars, so I have tons of gears to play with.

I am also getting very good at drifting. I impress myself sometimes. I set out my orange track dots for a technical course and go crazy on it.[>:] I have only wrecked it once since I bought it. I was doing a speed run with drift tires on my street. It goes strait at low speeds, but at high speed it veared off coarse towards the curb. I got it under control and into reverse before it hit the curb. I bairly tapped it with the front and put a few minor scufs on the front, but that's about it (nothing worse than that).

The Lotus body has a lot of down force. I was a little surprised. Once you get it going pretty fast with drift tires (abs pipe) it sticks to the street very well. I can make small steering adjustments as I'm going down the street and it wont spin out. The tires are being pushed down so much that it is like driving on sand paper. And then of coarse, I turn it sideways and slide about 50 more feet.[X(]

I have not tried it with my high grip tires but I will do that when drifting stops being so fun, lol. I have to put the stock body on though. I had a little trouble mounting this body because it was not made for it. I have a Shelby Mustang body that is waiting to be mounted and painted when I get a chance.
