Alright, lets say both cars cost a total of $250. Meaning the Sprint 2 is stock and the TT-01 has about $100 worth of upgrades (considering it's $150 rtr). Which would be better? I'm not gonna race, just play around on smooth ground such as tennis courts.

I was at a drift meet last night and I talked to six guys. They all said the Sprint. They say it's smoother and is more tweakable than a TT 01. Even if you're not going pro, it's good to have all that at your fintertips.
The TT-01 is great if you're on a budget.
TT-01 shaft driven: never breaks
Sprint 2: belt drive: better for onroad and smoother but more maintenance. I, however, met someone that said he never had a problem with his belt.

Well I actualy just recently got a TT-01 after having a Sprint 2 Stage D for 2 month prior to getting the TT-01. In my opinion the TT-01 is great for someone who just wants to get drifting without alot of headaches in regard to tweaking camber and so forth. If you love to tweak and play around with your cars setup then the Sprint 2 is def the better choice because out of the box you can adjust everything.
Overall I prefer my TT-01.

Alright looks like I'm gonna get the TT-01 because I am on a tighter budget than I thought, so how about this: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKSG4&P=0 There are so many tt-01's I have no idea what's what. As I understand this one is a kit that only requires batteries and a radio? And I'm gonna have to build it myself, and paint it? Is this a good choice or is there another of the hundreds of versions that's better for about the same price? I'm not new to rc btw, I have a nitro buggy.

hey if you can afford the drift spec TT-01 then go for it. The Drift spec kit comes with the alum drive shaft and proper bearings.
Yes you are going to have to build and paint it but the TT-01's are all very easy to build since Tamiya have among the best instruction manuals of all the manufacturers plus if you look around there's a handy build tutorial video around on the bittorrent sites. With that kit as you said you'll still need to get some Radio gear (ie servo, Tx and Rx), and a battery and charger.
The other TT-01 kit thats quite cheap and includes the led light kit is the Nismo Z-Tune R34 kit ... [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLWS2&P=7]check it out[/link]
With the Z-Tune kit you still need add on the the Alum Prop Shaft and Bearing hop-ups.

Alright thanks.
Here is what I put together, are these batts/charger/paint good?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKSG4&P=0
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFFT6&P=V
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHUJ9&P=0 - 2 of them
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXL348&P=7
Am I missing anything except the radio(going to use my nitro car's radio system to save money)?

I've been thinking about the same kit but I am not sure what battery the use, this is the one they recommend http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJA83&P=6
but I'm not sure if the mAh is high enough to get the power I want.

Charger: NRC Super Brain 959; affordable and my best charger thus far. I think it's a little over $40.
Sold all of my other chargers and kept this.

Thanks, I'll get that charger then.
Omg, puttin together a kit is so much harder than I thought.. I just realized it needs a servo. Will this do? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVW84&P=0 or do I need a faster/torqueier one?

basically this is like saying shaft drive versus belt drive. Ya see, from what I've learned, the TT01(or Shaft in general) is/are more for riding on concrete with littl bumps in it, making shaft built durability and handling . The Sprint 2(or Belt drive in general) is/are for smooth asphalt, making them more for the acceleration and agility.
In other words, it all depends on your riding style.
This is from what I've learned, and this is also how I see the two in contrasting.

Very Close Spartan but here is the Two Factors.
If We are Talking a Stock Sprint 2 and a Slightly Modded TT-01 then here are the Underlying factors
TT-01:Advantages
TT-01 as long as it has the Alloy propshaft and Wheel Bearing kit will offer quicker more direct feel due
to the nature of a shaft Driven car.. it will launch off the line harder then a Sprint 2..
TT-01 parts are relatively Cheap and durable. The TT-01 features covered spur and pinion gears making rock and pebble damage near Zero.. you can Rally Drive a TT-01 on gravel with no issues.
TT01 is Easy to Build, Easy to upgrade and Easy to maintain.
Damned near Indestructable, but will break if treated Badly.. like most cars really
Being a Tub Chassis all the essential parts like Battery and motor are very well protected..
Sprint 2 Advantages
A Stock Sprint 2 will easily out drive a TT-01.. Being Belt Driven it feels smoother to drive and very well balanced car
It is Way more adjustable then the TT-01 meaning that the car can be dialed in for Drift and drift and race more superior to the TT-01.. Its a Chassis in the next category up from the TT-01. Its Lighter and has more Bling parts and Oil filled Shocks Stock. It has Ooodles of Gearing options but Stock will Handle a 10 T motor..
Stock most Come with a 17x2T and an LRP AI ESC. Top Speed Stock Approx 40kph
The Motor mount is alloy Stock.. aids motor cooling...
TT-01 Disadvantages
Its Heavy, A Shaft Drive tends to Vibrate more taking some of the smoothness that the Belt Drives have.
It Does Suffer from a one way Turning Bias due to the way the Electronics and Battery are mounted either side of the shaft.. The Battery weighs more then the Electronics and motor..
It has been known that the rear diff cover can crack if a Head on or Tail on impact happens..
If it is Stock, then the Plastic Bushes and Plastic Prop shaft can snap..
Average Top speed of a Stock TT-01 is around 25 -30kph..
Gearing can also be an issue with a TT-01 as it has a fixed motor mount, meaning only certain gear combinations will mesh.
With the Motor Being in the Tub, Airflow is reduced so a Heat sink is necessary..
Sprint2 Disadvantages
Its Belt Driven.. meaning your Drift surface must be very clean to ensure that rocks debris isn't pickeed up into the enclosed Diff casing which can lead to premature belt wear..
The pinion and spur is side mounted and exposed.. A heavy side impact can cause the spur gear to be damaged..
The Motor is mounted Side ways towards the rear of the car below the rear belt.. Needs a Custom Heatsink to keep the motor cool IF you decide to run a Motor lower then 14x2T as the belt above the motor only clears the motor by about 2mm if that...
The Main Belt from the Front Diff to the motor goes around the upper deck, meaning half the car has to be dissasembled to replace the belt...it is rare for the front belt to snap or wear but can happen.
The Rear belt is always in need of checking.. and you have to pull the WHOLE rear off the car to change the Belt.
a 45min to 1.5 Hour Job. AVERAGE life of a Rear Belt is around 10 hours.. I have gotten over 40 with mine but I drift on a Near spotless surface..
There isnt much room on a Sprint 2 chassis so Large ESC's can become a problem when mounting..
It can be Done but this means you must Set the ESC up prior to fitting as usually the Set button will be mounted in an inaccessable postion once fitted.
I Own Both Cars.. and I love my Sprint 2 as much as I Love my TT01..
I use my Sprint 2 more as it Drifts and races perfectly with the only thing needing to be changed is the Tyres..
