hey guys,
I'm new to on-road but not to mt's. i have a decked out race-maxx and would really like to get into drifting. I have no clue about electronics and stuff. I was wondering what would be a cheap rtr drifter. Most of my local hobby shops carry off-road buggy/truggy/mt stuff. Not much on-road but it won't take long to order it in. I don't want to be spending to much either. I already have a hot-bodies micro charger:

Hopefully that should be ok. I don't know which batteries are good, what rtr's are good or anything. Please help me make a decision

If you wanna go with a RTR on the cheap, Sprint2 or TT01's are good.
Motors: 23t-35t. You can go down to a 19t or maybe even lower, but I'd suggest you start a little higher and get your car control right. I'm not exactly sure what the tt01 comes with but I believe the sprint2 comes with everything except batteries...so, moving on.
Batteries...2 3300NimH should be fine. You can go higher, but with drifting, those'll last about 45 minutes a piece.
Tires: 'Since we're staying on the low money side, ABS will be your best bet. If you need to know where to get some, pm me. I'll give you some details. YOu can make your own or buy it pre-made. your choice.
That's really all you need. Here are some helpful websites.
Forums: These are 3 VERY helpful forums you can check out. DRC will give you more comprehensive info on a variety of chassis and whatnot. Groovy is centered more on Yokomo (great products buy on the expensive side). RC Dori (z3 invisi....) is a great site and some of our East Coast members are from Canada (Toronto and mabye Vancouver). Also a good comprehensive site. These aren't the ONLY good forums out there, but these are, in my opinion, the best and most active. Also, within these 3 sites, if you check the forsale/trade sections, you can usually find really good deals on used RTR chassis that have already been hop'd up. Everything from the MR4TC's and TA03F's to Sprint2's and TT01's.

Shops: I'm listing these in order of what you can get. Speedtech offers complete RTR kits as well as a good range of accessories. both genki or choku (cws) offer a range of parts from bodies, to lights, to wheels, to accessories, to a slew of miscelaneous stuff. But, they nornally don't carry full chassis or RTR kits. And if they do, you gotta catch'em in an ebay auction. From Tower on down are just good sites to have on speeddial (favorites). They all are pretty well known throughout the RC community and can offer great rc stuff. However, they aren't focused on drift as the top 3 are.

The last bit i want to impart is this. Get what you can afford. a lot of people are partial to what they use. I'm partial to Yokomo. Some are partial to Tamiya. Some people like Team Associated and so forth. There are quite a few chassis choices out there. All you need to drift is a 4wd and proper tires. Don't let someone talk you into what a begginner chassis is and isn't. What you start with is your beginner chassis. A lot of people start low and work up. But, you don't have to. TT01 is a great chassis for a beginner or someone who's been doing it awhile. The Yokomo is a great begginner chassis. I say that cuz it was my first. But, get what's within YOUR budget that you like. The main point is to have fun. What makes you good is LOTS of practice.
Also, belt vs shaft will come up somewhere. Shaft can take gravel, belts may not. That's the only difference you should concern yourself with now. There's A LOT of info floating around out there and it's easy to get confused and frustrated. Do what works for you. Hope this helps. Have fun.
