Default Motor Problems! Need Help PLEASE!

My stock motor in my HPI Racing Sprint 2 Sport Drift Rtr is dying I think I'm not sure but it takes a few seconds for it to start going forward even when I'm giving it full throttle but it works perfectly going in reverse I think its the commutator but that's not replaceable I would have to buy a new motor I need some feed back I'll buy a new motor if I have to I just want to know if I'm for sure going to have to or not

Stock motors dont last long but all of mine have started to loss power first. I'm betting you'll need a new motor soon either way..

one way to check for worn brushes or commutator is to place the car on a stand, give it very little throttle, just enough to barely move the wheels. If the wheels stop or don't even move, keep the throttle at the present position and with the other hand turn the wheel, if it takes off running then you have worn brushes or a flat spot on your commutator.

Brushless motors are great, the only drawback is the wear factor. Brushes can be replaced, but the comm has to be cut on a lathe, which the average joe doesn't have. That is why I moved on to brushless. But both motors have pros and cons.

It may be time for a new motor my friend.

that definetly sounds like brushes - you can also put a volt meter on the ESC out to the motor, pull the trigger and see if you get an instant reading - if you get the reading immediately, then it's bad brushes or comm.

You can replace the brushes and springs as well as using motor spray to clean out all the drit and carbon. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXSEL1&P=ML

This sounds like a typical crisis of the brushes being worn. You will need to replace the brushes but I would just move up to a better motor than the stock motor... unless you plan on going brushless. One motor I would go with If I were you would be a reedy 15 T, it offers exceptional power and has a relatively longer life than a stock motor. That motor has almost the same specifications as the yokomo 15 T d1mn motor I used to run for a long time back then. For HPI Drift Meisters im not that familiar with them so I can't offer much feedback.. my apologizes. Now brush life matters on the power of the motor and the materials the brushes are made out of. Some brushes are made out of different material so they last longer but cost a little bit more. I love brushed motors for the massive torque they produce for drifting but remember they need to be well maintained. If you don't want to fiddle with maintenance then go with a brushless system, take all of this information into careful consideration before you make your choice. Best of wishes

With replaceable parts what are you implying? The only simple items that can be replaced on a brushed motor is the brushes and bearings.. anything else requires extensive work such as adding extra winds, cutting comm, changing magnets, etc. 15T motor should prove very essential to you for drifting, it provides a decent range of torque.. then again I only used a reedy and yokomo brushed motor for a long period of time. Reedy Flash motors are actually very similar to the yokomo brushed motors, they share the same design and offer tremendous torque from what I last remember but that was well over almost a year ago.

I loved the torque of a brushless, but I got tired of the constant maintenance and when you put as many hours as I do drifting it just made sense, dollar wise to go brushless. I have tried HPI flux motiv, Castle Creation sidewinder and Mamba Max and Mamba Max Pro and even EZ Run. After using a Yokomo sensored brushless system I have to admit that they are really tuned for drifting. Throttle response and power curve on the Yok systems is superb.
