Default 1st RCUniverse Electric Speed Challenge

Time to bring out your fastest off-road electric rc's!
OK, rules...

1) Scale must be 1/18th up to 1/8th
2) Scratch built or one offs not permitted, must be a market model using market hopups with the exception of gearing, which can be custom.
3) Must be 2S battery (7.4v max, or 8.4 fully charged) and WHEEL POWERED, no ducted fans or jets
4) Must be on a flat surface (downhill with the wind behind not allowed )
5) Custom gearing IS allowed. If your friend has a machine shop and you are of the inclination to get custom gearing made, go for it.
6) Car must SURVIVE the run (including ESC, battery and motor, smokers will be DQed!)
7) Speed can be proven either by; speed trap, radar gun (but not hot wheels), GPS, on board tachometer or accelerometer.
8) Video must be 480p (no cellphones unless they are awesome quality) and be UNedited between showing the battery sticker (showing 2S), the speed recording method, the run and the final result.

First prize will be: Maximum respect and a cookie. 2nd prize will be: Some respect and a cookie. 3rd prize will be: a cookie

Since GPS units can be fudged (just by loading your RC in the car, or better yet an airplane, and taking a ride), and since radar units can be "adjusted" (or made to read whatever you want, when calebrated) - how on Earth are you going to account for cheating?

I think we've all seen the videos posted by kids showing off their "70mph tc-3/rc-10 on 6-cell nimh pack and stock motor"

How many 2s1p packs are allowed? OR are you limiting voltage and the P?

Are you sure you want to limit the "p" ? It is meaningless.

How long does a typical speed run take?

I'm guessing there's about a good a chance of that not happening as there is for you to post without using profanity.

Sucks my GPS does not record and save top speed.... I usually have to wait for the cops to set up the trailer with the radar out in front of my place.[&:]

Vehicle: AE B4.1
Motor and ESC: CC SV2 and 1406 4600
Run Conditions: Air 70*F Road 75*F
Gearing: 21/81
ESC & Motor temps after run: 119.3*F, Motor 123.2*F
First speed run: was using old tires and they feel apart at 47mph

Now I have dirt hawgs on running 21/81 w/ CC 4600 and sidewinder. To dark to get a running video. Look at bottom left.

Shouldn't it be worth mentioning that this needs to be an off road car? IE XXX-T, RC10B4, no touring cars...

If touring cars are allowed, ThunderbirdJunkie has a snazzy F103GT and HPI Sprint[&:]

My Xray M18T pro will give you all big problems on 2s with its 7500kv Orion Vortex 380, but I have no idea how I'm gonna prove it, since my iphone (and pretty much any other GPS speed measuring device) is gonna add 50% weight to the truck. Does about 58 mph on 20/54 stock tires, Orion Vortex 7500kv 380, flightmax 25c 2200 2s batts.

In any case, it's in about 15 broken pieces at the moment, from a head on with a nitro truggy at about 50mph. Lost all arms, wheels and uprights in one go. Car was like the dude out the Metallica video 'One'. lol.

Parts are on their way from the US (hm, there's an odd one. Xray parts are made in Czechoslovakia, a neighbouring region to Greece, yet I have to order them from the US. Go figure) along with my SCRT-10.

Minis are fast! My RC18T did 61mph, it was hard to keep it planted, that's why it's laying in pieces in a box right now.

I would love to see the 257mph 22!
Second attempt at speed run today with dirt hawgs ll only yielded 46mph. Had it geared 25/81 and was pulling wheelies at 3/4 throttle. The CC 1406 4600kv had tons left and was only at 130*F
