Default XTM 3900kv 4pole

I have a friend with a xtm 3900 4pole who offered to let me try it in my sct. I'd like to know opinions before I tried it. I have a sidewinder ESC the first version I believe, would I have to program the ESC or just plug and play, not racing i . Just running it out in the dirt for ****s n giggles. Any thoughts?

You should be fine to just plug it in and go. But since Castle doesn't provide any real specs, it's hard to know for sure what the long term effects may occur. If that XTM motor draws more current than the Sidewinder can handle, it could be problematic, but I doubt that 3900kv motor will draw more than a Castle 5700kv, which the Sidewinder is supposed to support.

I'm running 2s lipo 35c, which runs my 5700 really hot. I've geared it down and it still gets hot. I'd like to get longer run times with less threat of thermal damage. I've been told that higher c rating will run it cooler. Its a lot to learn lol

Still hot after gearing down? Have you done any maintenance on the car? Check for binding bearings? Drive train drag will cause over-heating. As will driving in grass (unless we're talking 1/5th scale).

How can I check it? The wheels spin pretty easily. What's the proper lubricant for the bearings?

I see in your other post, you were running a 5700kv? That could be why you were running a little hot. As you go up in KV (RPMs per volt) you go DOWN in torque. And usually, UP in HEAT. That motor IS probably a bit much for your application. The 3900kv will probably suit you better. You need to get a IR thermometer to monitor you motor temps for proper gearing.

The only way to know if you have a binding bearing is to take the car apart and check them all. Gotta do it every so often. Usually the bearings in the wheel hubs are the ones that go first. One bearing seizing can raise temps 10 degrees. Sometimes you can "service" the bearing and continue using it, otherwise they need replacing. If your bearings are the rubber-shielded type, you use a hobby knife to carefully lift out the rubber seals and use a RC motor/bearing degreaser to clean out the bearing, then apply a little bearing oil. If it spins freely and smoothly, re-use it. If it still feels gritty or notchy, replace it.

Try the 3900kv im sure the heat will go down adding the new gearing.

The Castle 5700kv is a finicky motor, the Kv is on the high side for most off-road applications. In heavier SCT vehicles you gotta gear it down and it shouldn't be used in 4wd SCT's. The Castle 4600kv would've been a better choice. http://www.castlecreations.com/suppo...5-0130-01L.pdf

The XTM 3900kv is much more appropriate for SCT's as far as Kv goes. It's also a little longer than the Castle so it should have a bit more torque. I'd definitely give it a shot and it should work fine with the Sidewinder.
