Default Traxxas Slash Q.

Hi everyone, new to this site. old to RC, but new to RC truck/cars.

So, I am about to pull the trigger on a 4X4 slash. I am very serious about a Slash 4X4 VXL TSM/TQ/Batt/Chrg kit. If I get that kit, I am the type that will want to go out and get cool aftermarket trick parts, so with that being said, would I be better of getting the Slash Ultimate? I am not really sure what is the difference exactly is on the ultimate. But whatever it is, would I be better off with the VXL and upgrade those parts, or is the Ultimate the better way to go right off the bat?

Thanks for any advise or opinions.

Start off with the VXL and add RPM Racing parts as you break them; that's what I'd suggest.

Slash 4x4 Ultimate gets my vote. Mainly because of the LCG chassis, GTR shocks, and the blue bling...what's not to like? The problem is finding one .

Battery and charger is a waste. Better to buy the RTR sans battery and charger, since the charger is a low watt wall wart. Spend $50 on a Thunder 680 and buy a decent sized Lipo, like 5000mah 50C, instead of the probably 3000mah 25C pack you'd get with the combo. A Slash 4x4 is going to need serious juice. Traxxas Lipos are decent, but you'll get a lot more battery if you bought a Gens Ace 5000mah 50C . They can be had for under $45. A Traxxas pack is about $58.

Unless you're going to make it a dedicated race truck I would not go with the LCG chassis. For bashing or all around driving The standard chassis is a better compromise. Just my 2cents

I have an Ultimate so I guess i'm biased. If you add up all the stuff the Ultimate comes with ,it's a good deal. The aluminum carriers/caster blocks, aluminum bearing adapter,GTR shocks,S1 compound tires, all the telemetry installed,TSM, the TQi/with the bluetooth module installed, etc. Add all those pieces up and add that to a regular vxl and I think you'll see the Ultimate is a pretty good deal and a stout basher truck right out of the box. Agree the battery/charger can be upgraded but most of us do that with any truck. You could look at a Platinum...most of the same pieces minus telemetry and RX/TX/battery/charger and you'll need to paint the body.
