Ehh...can't do that either. It'll burn up. Those motors are prone to burn up after about 15-20 runs on 7 cells.

I will try to get a few more pics up tonight. I added MGT extra firm copper springs in the rear, and the stock springs back up front. It's lowered quite a bit more then it was normally. I also made a wheelie bar for temporary use only. I can't wait to get this thing rollin tomorrow.

lets see the pics ! I need a new arm for my chameleon be-4 i do any more racin or bashin. then eventually I will get a 4200 NIMH 7.2 pack from my lhs. That will be my battery for my main in racing my pede and Tc3. I can't wait to start smokin the stadium trucks that think that Traxxas Stampedes are rocks I will blow by them and laugh! I want to make a decal for my truck that says "A Rock is Better Then a Stock" because most people with the stadium trucks they race in the 19 turn class just keep em stock but not me! Mines a rock that kills!

ORIGINAL: SS Pede

Just ran a couple packs through my Stampede today over on the edge of campus at a construction site. It was pretty fun. At one point I drove my pede into a big metal pipe laying on the ground, about 2 feet in diameter and 25-35 feet long. Figures I got hasty and somehow my truck flipped over right in the middle of the pipe! I had to crawl in to get it! [&:] Also, towards the end of the second run a couple UNH police officers in a cruiser pulled up. I thought I was in trouble for trespassing at a construction site or something! Heh, boy was I wrong! They just asked "How fast does it go?" I said 30-35 mph (I have an SS5800). They clocked it at 22 with their radar gun, which was dissappointing. However, it seems reasonable when I think about it. I was just thinking before they showed up how I think my truck tops out pretty fast. I might try to get some top end back by gearing up to 16/87 instead of 15/87. I geared down when I got my rather tall Proline Moab tires, but I think I can afford to gear back up and still have plenty of grunt down low.

Other factors that I think contributed to the relatively slow speed run: For one thing, I was 10 minutes into a 15 minute run with old GP3300's. I knew my truck couldn't post a great speed run when my pack, was nowhere near freshly peaked. Second, I was on dirt not pavement. It was hard packed dirt, but it was a bit bumpy and I think that slowed me down, especially on the second speed run (I did two) when I got a bit crossed up and wheelie'd over a bump as I was trying to accelerate. So, 22 mph sounds awfully slow for the SS5800 but it's not a big deal. I still got to pull a couple wheelies for the cops and it was a good time overall. They agreed that I chose a good place to drive my truck. Sometime I may gear up a little, and I also want to install the SS5800 upgrade kit at some point for a bit more power.
cool, sounds like you had fun! I gotta find some cops to clock mine! lol
I'm geared 16/87 right now with masher 2000's which are a little bit (not much) taller than moabs. 16/87 will probably work good for you, I'm thinking about backing down to 15. It's running a little on the hot side with the new batteries.

I always ran my SS 5800 with 17/87 gearing and Masher 2k's with pretty good temps on 7 cells.

I wonder if that 7th cell makes a difference in temps or efficientcy or something? Alot of thick grease in the tranny will also make the truck run hotter then normal.

[sm=idea.gif]It just occured to me that I was running in tall grass a lot so I think I will stick with the 16/87. I did have a ton of grease in the tranny before but when my idler went I took it easy with the grease this time . I think one of my dang evader shocks needs to be rebuilt... lol the front shocks have been a pain! the rear have had ZERO problems. I wonder if the softer springs in the front are stressing the shocks out or something... They do bottom out on huge jumps[>:]--- do you think the constant bottoming out could be the reason O-rings just aren't lasting?! [:@]

BTW f150dan, that setup is looking mean! Very nice! [sm=thumbup.gif]

f150dan - I saw that "Rustler" video. He put smaller tires in the front and gain like 5 to 10 mph.(Something like that!) I guess the wind pushes down on the body to keep the frontswheels down. Some "Aerodynamic Thingy".

Or slant the front shocks somehow to "Lower it." I don't know!!! Just trying to help![]

So I can watch your NEW VIDEO!!!![X(][>:][8D]

I would like to have a new body lying around just for this, but I don't think I'm gonna buy one to only use for a speed run[]. Here's the setup I'm gonna try today. I put the RPM front bumper back on it, but I mounted it upside down to help with wind resistance (maybe). And heres the pics of my wheelie bars. This is as low as the truck will go without cutting the springs on it. I am running hard springs all the way around it right now too.

That wheelie bar looks cool, but it doesn't look like it will allow a very big wheelie! About that 7th cell, I know brushless setups with high voltage/high turn motors tend to get good run time because the motor can really take advantage of all the voltage without stressing the batteries too much. I never really thought this theory would work very well with the SS5800...I mean, 7 cells and 17/87 sounds like really pushing it! But I dunno, after all I do not run 7 cells.

gunnut - I plan on going back up to 16/87, which is where I had the truck geared with the stock tires. I knew the Moabs would be taller so I automatically geared down, but perhaps that was unnecessary. If anything, I suspect that with the same gearing the stickiness of the Moabs will provide MORE acceleration/wheelies than the relatively slippery stock tires.

It's a no go on the speed trails today.[] I had my 8 cell pack peaked and ready for action, I had my camera man ready, and I had my neighbor cop over here with the radar gun to see what I could squeeze out of it today. Right when I got ready to pull out, something stripped in the tranny.[:@] It had to have been damage from yesterday, because I didn't give it much throttle at all.

All of this might have to be called off until next weekend. My neighbor cop told me today that he thought I was definately exceeding 55mph yesterday afternoon. I hope he is right.

After I finish this speed run, I am definately pulling this motor and esc out of the Ole 'Pede. That truck just can't handle this much power. I'm gonna just reinstall the SS 5800 and be happy with that in the truck.

I wonder if my new T4 can deal with all that power a little better?

I just ordered a new diff gear, tranny housing, steel output yokes, street sport axles, Ofna blue servo saver, and blue/silver threaded aluminum Revo shocks for my Pede. I'm gonna do this next speed run attempt in style[8D]

I are a noob!

First, I blew my esc with too many cells connected so now it is a forward only esc.
Second, I solder the wires on the motor wrong so then it only went in reverse.
I go to run the thing and it goes backwards so I just flip the body around and voilla, it goes forwards.
A few weeks back I took apart my motor for the first time and didnt screw it back together all the way so after about 15 seconds of going in reverse, half of the motor fell off and it came to a dead stop!

Therfore I'm switching to nitro for ease and simplicity

Where did I get what? And what does all of what parts do? I've got so many parts I don't know what your talking about.

But I ran the SS 5800 brushless setup on 16-17/87. That is about right for that motor. I run my new Lehner 5300 on 17/90 gearing.

bomber 410, If you have trouble screwing a motor back the right way I wouldn't recommend nitro. Not only is it harder to assemble and take apart to clean but it can be very tricky to keep a car tuned, and if it isn't tuned there is no point. All the guys on here love to give advice and talk RC so feal free to keep asking questions! cheers
