Sure, It shows normal size electronics in my manual and it looka like plenty of room for say Traxxas ESC and reciever. I will use a micro reciever from a RC18, a high speed normal size servo and a Duratrax 12t ESC.

I just got it yesterday so I'm still piecing it together. I want to make it so I don't need to take off body to change the battery at all, Deans should help with that

basically any standard or micro part can be made to fit. ive even seen novak GTBs(very large ESCs) fit onto the chassis. so you should have no problem

yes bmaglinger i am having a few second thoughts on that motor. 19X1 motors are all around motors. tons of acceleration and good speed. but i doubt it would run with nitros. and i doubt that some people would think its brushless. haha. let us know today man. pics man. those are impostant!. haha. thansk man

Talking about motors!!!!

I got my new Trinity Speedgems Extreme 15x2 today along with my IB 4200 batteries. So, being the impatient person I am, even with my front shock mount dangling, I had to try it out.

Imagine my surprise when it was actually a lot slower than my 12 year old GM Racing Purple Bull 15x2 which has never had new brushes or the comm skimmed in it's life and must have around 70 or 80 runs on it by now. I will be sending an email to Trinity to see what they reckon. The timing marks are on 0 for the Bull and +5 for the Speedgems as it came out of the box.

Everything else was exactly the same as I tried it by changing the motors around on the same car. I was really expecting a decent performance boost.[:@]

Anybody got any ideas?

well being a speedgems lover, ive used their 15x2 motor. loved it. with what your saying, it makes me wonder either 1- you didnt run the motor in. did you properly break in the brushes and comm? if not, then that will mess up your performance for the first few runs. 2- are your batteries connected good and are they matched and zapped yet? 3- you have a speed control that cant take that motors amperage and constant voltage that the motor needs(meaning robbed performance and faster motor damage) or 4- you have a motor that has a company malfunction and you need to send it in to trinity and get it replaced. i loved that motor. i ran it in a ST and put probly 100 runs into it without cutting and cleaning the comm and brushes and it worked great. i recently swapped it for a newer speedgems 17x2 in the ST. and just recently bought a speedgems pyrite 10x2. speedgems are great motors for their money.

1- you didnt run the motor in. did you properly break in the brushes and comm? if not, then that will mess up your performance for the first few runs.
On the instruction sheet which comes with the motor, they reckon you don't need to break it in as it comes with a diamond trued comm. Not being a knowledge base of electric motors and never having actually run one in before, what would I need to do??

2- are your batteries connected good and are they matched and zapped yet?
My batteries are brand new IB 4200 discharged and charged as per their instructions. I will be trying on a GP 3600 pack I have which I know gives lot's of bang.

3- you have a speed control that cant take that motors amperage and constant voltage that the motor needs(meaning robbed performance and faster motor damage)
My Speed controller is a pretty old Novak Explorer Sport which has a 15T limit, hence why I got another 15T and not less.

All of this however still begs why the huge difference between a really old GM Racing motor and a brand new new-gen motor?

Point 4 doesn't even bear thinking about as I got it from Tower in the USA and the shipping charges to get a motor back and forward would not be worthwhile.

Since writing my original post, I have taken the motor out and run it with no load to check the revs by ear (I know, not very scientific) and have changed the timing to the 25 mark where it sounds like it's doing alot higher revs than at 5, not sure what those marks mean though. I am busy charging my GP pack to check.

I know that in the past Trinity motors used to be really good, that's why I went for one of them instead of one of the others.

Thanks for the feedback and pointers.

ditch the explorer. sorry but you need to. haha. very old, very low constant amps.you put the mark down to 2? that should be fine. any where between 0-3 is usually fine for offroad. im nto saying send it back to tower, im saying email trinity and see if you can send it in if it doesnt start working properly. now that youve run the motor once, it should be basically run in. and just because tis a diamond cut comm doesnt eman that it doesnt need to be run in. its always safe to run in the motor atleast once to make sure the brushes have made their grooves in the comm and are contacting the comm properly. also check to make sure the springs are pushing the brushes in all the way

Thanks for that. I was gonna buy a new ESC, as mentioned before, along with a nice 9x2 or 10x2 hand wound modified, however I then decided to buy a Traxxas T-maxx nitro truck, so didn't want to spend too much money on the DI. I just thought that a new motor would be a quick upgrade to more speed. Surely it should run quicker than my old GM racing motor though, out the box?

o it will be. but that speed control is crap. i used one, and it didnt even do what i wanted in stock class. you need a good modified ESC that has probly a 10 turn limit on it to get good power.

Kinda hard to drive/race and take pics at the same time anyway.[:@]
Oh course I won raced little kids again..[:'(]
Now I'm getting really bored of racing and want to quit for a while even though I just got started....[:-]
If you were in my shoes you would have to agree----Tired of winning...[]
They put all the electric people in one class, I raced a couple rustlers w/XL10 escs, and Emily drives a lazer ZX5

wait. im not sure i understand your thing. are you saying you did 5 laps in 16 minutes or what? what were your lap times compared to the top truggy and buggie lap times. the way you posted that is a little confusing to me. its a little too close together. its cool that you couldnt get pics of oyu racing, but even pics of your track would be cool. thanks man.

ok so the truggies and buggies were running 21 laps in 7 minutes and you did11 laps in 5 minutes. that means yalls lap times were almost dead even considering each truggy and buggy probably went in for a pit once. very cool. ill search for some pics. thats fast man. congrats.

I've a question for DI owners. I got a used DI and all electrics are good but the wheels seem grossly out of balance, The buggy vibrates pretty bad on the stand. I peeled off the tires and found the gluing job was pretty hap-hazard. Some places it was very thick and others there was none. I cleaned the wheels and looked for breaks or cracks and didn't find any. I ran the buggy without the wheels and it was real smooth, replaced wheels/tires w/o foams and vibrating again. What should I check now or do you think the shody glue job could have done it?
I'll try my 26mm wheels with rally tires tomorrow to see what that does. That might give me a better idea if it's the wheels or something else.

OOPS

I broke my DI badly. The whole chassis is broken. I have no idea how to get images up on here, so if I could email them to somebody, perhaps they could post them for me?

Bascially I didn't have my antenna retracted as I was doing some short runs to test the new motor again and bang off it goes at top speed straight into the pavement. Impact was so hard, it even ripped the connector wire for the motor right out of the connector.

Oh, well time for a new ESC and a new chassis along with the front tower, etc.[:@]

cubmaster - im nto real sure about that. mine has never done that before. but you say its smooth without the wheels? check for a bent rim and try putting the foam back in the tire.

vic2367 - it can be but would put stress on the motor. read a few pages back because weve posted some of that stuff before. i actually posted some wheels with high offset that wont rub if you use them. so yeah if you want you can give it a try.

squeeguk - send me a PM with your email address and ill send you mine. then you can send me the pics and ill try to upload them

I looked a little closer at my wobble problem and it seems that the wheel bearings have had it.
