RE: The Official -Tamiya TA05 - Racing Thread
If your spur gear is wobbling you probably blew out the bearings on the shaft or bent the spurt shaft. Take off the motor and spin the spur gear by itself. It it wobles you probably did one of those two things. If it doesn't then it may be the motor.

Take apart the spur and pulley assembly. inspect all parts. You should be able to replace all of those parts individually. If the shaft is not bent then try different bearings. You can probably get the bearings at the local hobby store.

If your getting wobbling through the diffs as well then I think its time to pull the entire drivetrain apart and inspect everything and reassemble.

its possible. not common but possible. I don't think an aluminum diff joint would fix the problem. Hard to say at this point without actually Seeing what its doing.

RE: The Official -Tamiya TA05 - Racing Thread
here is my TA05, i had the original NSX body for it, and still do, but i wanted to try making a new body.
i painted this skyline body with metalic black and metallic blue. i think it looks real good in the sun, i havent put all the stickers on it yet, and i dont know if i will.
i have an atomic one way in the front and atomic diff outdrives in the back because i broke the factory plastic ones.
i have the novak ESC, but i am trying to get a better esc because i have a Trinity Cobalt 2 13T Double Round Wire Touring/Off-Road motor to put in it.
i use GP 3300 cells which with the 15t trinity speed gem motor i have in it now the run times are atleast 15 minutes if not 20. the speed is good but i am still trying to find some good tires for it, i have the hpi x pattern now, and they seem to be the best ive tried.
what do you all think?

RE: The Official -Tamiya TA05 - Racing Thread
I got my TA-05R and have been building it slowly - got a question. On step 22 of the manual (putting the front damper stay on, and the piece that fits over the steering assembly) I hit an issue.
With the steering assembly in place (prior to step 22), it goes smoothly and well. When I put that cover over the assembly in step 22 (part number is K1), the ball cup adjuster on the right side rubs against the cover (K1 piece) when I turn the steering by hand all the way to the right (tires would point to the right, linkage going "in" on the right side). It won't rub until I start tightening K1 down...I'm not over-tightening, it rubs well before that.
Anyone run into this? Recommendations? Thanks!
Sweet car so far. Really nice.

Carpet Race Upgrade Help
I have a TA05 (regular cheap version) which I bought about 2 years ago. I've never raced it but have driven it on a carpet track a few times. It is currently has all stock pieces but: a Reedy 19t Quad Mag and a Novak XRS Sport Reversible ESC (I also have a EPIC binary 2 Stock motor, both motors are relativly used). I have the cheap Futaba 2 channel AM receiver and cheap, well used steering servo (not sure which one), that came with the controller. Now for the fun part: I would like to do an overhaul on it and upgrade it to where it would be competetive on a carpet track. I would like to spend no more than $400 on parts.
What i would like to know is what are the upgrades that i should do and what price should i expect to pay for each.

One option might be to sell yours, buy the TA05R kit, and go from there? That kit contains a lot of upgrades, and Ultimate Hobbies has it for $220. Just a thought:

Is there a big difference between the ta05r and the ta05 IFS? I like the IFS better but if the R is better then Ill probably get that one.

RE: The Official -Tamiya TA05 - Racing Thread
I currently race my TA-05, with a Team Checkpoint Money motor (19x1T)
in my 1st race, i came 2nd in the B final. I would have won, BUT i lost a minute on the first lap (the race is 5 mins long). The winner was 1 lap infront of me, so if i had not lost the minute, i would have been at least 2 laps in front of him

RE: The Official -Tamiya TA05 - Racing Thread
Looks like I am going to try and set my TA05 up for carpet this season. I am going to try out some GRP foams this weekend. Will report back.
