RE: What are good nitro chassis to convert to electric
I just picked up a nice modified rtr Revo 3.3 for about $330 on ebay. I also saw some comparable rollers go for $240-260 and even some 2.5 rollers for about $180, but I figured I could make up the difference reselling the engine, pipe, excess servos, etc. I've seen lightly used 3.3 engines go for $80 before. I figure that I can bring down the overall price of the roller down to about $200 or so and I'll end up with a nicer truck than I could have for the same amount of money. RTR seems like the way to go.
As far as the conversion I'm going to go for the Rc-Monster motor mount and velcro in my batteries. Here's the mount:

not quite the best value, when you could buy a new electric rustler for 40-50 bucks more

Don't forget the
HPI rs4 mt2!

You can buy this, then sell the engine, pipe, air filter, tank, etc... And probably get at least $75.

RE: What are good nitro chassis to convert to electric
i used a hot bodies lightning stadium 10 for my last conversion. there is a roller on ebay right now that seem to be in good shape. there are a few people that have used lst's, savages, and mgt's. i know you can pic up a lst roller for a good price these days. that would be my choice for a monster truck. something else to mention is you need to look at your budget. i takes alot of $$ for the larger cars. my last project above was pretty cheap, and is a blast.

it definitely is a roller because it's a kit, unless your afraid to touch a screw driver and you don't want to build something.

You probably might want to follow the link i gave you. Lots of people have done this car before, and it handles the power very nicely. It has steel diffs, and a very nice shaft drive system.

RE: What are good nitro chassis to convert to electric
I'm having trouble deciding between a Sportwerks Turmoil pro and a TTR ST-1 rtr. I can get a brand new roller of a Turmoil pro for about $160, and A ST-1 rtr for $290(after I sell off the engine, radio, and servos, I can probably bring the cost to around $200). So the costs are similar, I'm just having trouble deciding between them. Any input would be appreciated.

May I suggest looking into a Jato. They are really simple and there are tons of them out. To really do something like an 1/8 or a monster truck you are going to spend a lot of money on your motor (Neu or Plett) then you will have to get very large lipo batteries (minimum 6000 mah with 20C ability and 4 cell at least). The Jato is a great straight foward car. YOu can get a roller for aorund $60 to $90. Then you can get a Mamba Max esc and a 3 cell lipo from Max Amps and if you want a inexpensive motor gat a Nemisis or Feiago, or if you want a better motor get Hacker or you can go all out and get a Krontronik or Neu. The whole car will be a good learning experance for you and wont brake the bank. This is a photo on one of mine (I have 3)
