Either get the bandit or if you want 4WD get a gravel hound or Rising Storm.
I started with the gravel hound and went up in motors 540 to a Sport Tuned to a 19T Mod.

The bandit will be just as good if you want 2WD, and it can take a beating.

The B44 I dont recommend for a beginner.

and it doesn't come as a roller either.

If you don't want a kit, try the b4 rtr or the Academy SB rtr. If you want a kit, ether are good. Tamiya's are actually very low quality, and they are not good for very much at all. Some not even bashing. The only goods tamiya's are the 501x and their $500 tc's.

Go with the academy or the AE.

hey there. the cheapest and best bang for the buck. the 4wd exceed from nitrorcx(99.95) then pick up a 70 dollar seven cell nimh from hobby people. you will be pleased. my seven cell exceed beats the stock 2wd rustler with six cells

You can only compare cars if they are running the same motor and battery.

id say go with the bandit if you are on a budget, and get the B4 if you have more money to spend. in any casre they are both good begginer buggies.

great for 2wd. If you want 4(better off road handling and traction, at a slightly slower speed.)

I have to agree, some of those "lower end" kits can beat a higher end kit or RTR if you know what you are doing, nobody should expect these things to last when driving right into a brick wall.

I'm saying that those 130-200 dollar tamiyas can be just as good as a XXX-T or AE with a couple key upgrades. Tamiya has to be the largest company around, and has experience in many fields. I'd have to say my Savage breaks more than my King Blackfoot, even at the speeds. Same goes to my Pede or my Ironman. The King Blackfoot is from the 80's, too.

Of course, this is in a bashing standpoint, if someone were to race, then I'd recommend a B44 or a XXX-T, depending on the level as well; and I won't recommend something I haven't really had experience with.

Get over the Academy business! They are just as low as redcat if not lower. Hard to find customer support and replacement parts even though they make decent r/c's.

I say get the Bandit XL-5 or VXL brushless version. Very tough buggy. I actually OWN one so I can attest to its abilities as an on-road / off-road buggy / speed demon. I got it for my younger brother 3 years ago, and have upgraded it since to a Novak 3.5 brushless pushing 55 mph. It can take tumbles, cartwheels, and jumps off of curbs and keep on rolling. Of course, you cannot compare it to a race buggy like the B4 or XXX-buggy but it is still a decent buggy for the price and has TONS of parts everywhere, including hop-up parts which it shares with the Rustler (truck version of the same chassis).

I say Tamiya Frog (completely mental) or Dark impact if you want 4 wheel drive. Spares are easy to get. You build them completely so you know how to repair if they break and they are just so much fun built out of the box.

Good luck

i would say traxxas bandit, not cause its the best of the ones mentioned but because its easy to get replacement parts, and upgrades. easy to work on, not very expensive. basically good for a beginner.
