Default spur gear on t4

Hi their, I finally decided to buy a traxxas vxl system for my rc10t4, and just had a question. Do I have to tighten the locknut thing that pushes the spring to the spur gear, so the spur gear won't spin because of the motor's torque.(not really sure what its called). Or do I just leave it stock. Also I might be using either 23/87, or 25/87 gearing, is that a good gearing, and would that at least push my car to around 35mph. Thanks.

you want a 83t spur... 87 is too high and the 23t pinion wont fit on. i would know, i used to have one.

23/86 on your t4...? That shouldn't even fit, if it did, you wouldn't go that fast.

Hi, As you guys may have heard on some of the other forums, I am going to switch to brushless as well, If you are going to get a 23T pinion and have a 83T spur, that would be relatively high gearing.

How does having a higher gearing effect your performance on dirt, would it make your tires spin more at the higher end speeds or no?

By the way, Always Dreamin, I was looking at the pictures of your T4 (nice paint job, you do that yourself?), anyway, what is that blue thing you cut out a piece of your body to make room for?

It's not high gearing if your running the vxl. Only on other systems.
The higher gearings effects it how you would expect. it's faster, and it will spin the tires at top speed. but it all depends on where you drive.
i did not do that paint job, it's just the stock body. the blue thing is the vxl esc.

OK, because I like driving my T4 in the dirt (naturally), and I like speed (of course), but I like to keep a good level of control for my vehicle. I love getting in the dirt and going sideways!!!!
