Default are Servo savers for metal gears neccessary?

I have a hitec hs-85 MG+ Is it really necessary to add a ser vo saver to a metal gear micro servo? I'm having trouble finding a saver that will fit in to my mini-t.

You'll be ok without it, but its still a good idea. However rarely, I have damaged metal geared servos.

They are still good to run because now instead of your servo stripping you may send the shock of hitting something into the rest of your steering system and break something else, generally where turnbuckles are things like to snap.

I use an hs-81 mg in my mamba 6800/2 cell lipo Mini-t and also had trouble finding a servo saver for it. After a few months of running it without problems I found a small servo saver in my lhs. I bought it only to find out that it required grinding and that the stock servo screw isn't long enough. If I ever find a longer screw I'll install it but until then I'm comfortable running it without a saver.

It isn't the red futaba saver is it? I saw a futaba servo saver that fits your HS 81 and my HS 85 MG on servocity.com, or some web site like that, after "googleing" servo savers.

Do you still have the screw. I want to know because I might be able to find a screw that fits. Do you know length, diameter, and thread count. I'd appriciate it if you give me the information so I can check online and at my hardware store.
