Default bandit vxl battery quest

So I just bought the bandit vxl with the pinion/spur upgrade. Unfortunatly, the only hi-performance battery my LHS had was a 11.1v 2000mah battery. I just ran the bandit for the first time and wasn't really impressed with the speed... would the 2000mah make THAT much of a difference?

Probbibly. something more like 5000mah+ would work a bit better.

yeah, noone around my area carried anything with that much capacity and I was in a rush to get goin so I bought the 2000mah. I still figured that 60 mph would be attainable but, it seemed more like 40-45. Looks like Im gonna go blow $200 for the 8000mah. thanks man

The Mah wont make you go faster. If thats what your thinking.
The more mah the more runtime. Its the volts that make speed. Like your pack is 11.1V or whatever. If you want higher speeds youll need more volts. Or higher gearing. But you gotta watch your motor ESC temps.

What battery are you useing ? And who makes it?

I have heard that anything under 4000mah or so will not go fast because the motor will overdraw the battery at an attempt to get more speed. anyone that has a 11.1v lipo and is complaning about speed obviosly isn't really undergeared. that, and he bought it new so it's not as though it can be really undergeared.

ahhh Thats what I always thought and knew! BUT.. the dude at my LHS told me the amps will effect the top speed. AND if you look at the Traxxas vxl chart it says... 65+ mph w/ 11.1v 4000mah & 70+mph w/ 11.1v 8000mah (so, this opened my eyes). I am an old school hobby guy but brand new to the brushless world. I've clocked my Associated L3 with 12 1400mah batteries at 75mph (with a 4 minute run time) so I was always under the impression of voltage not amps for top end.

this is my current battery.... INTEGY 3S 11.1/ 2000mah

In most cases the volts are the only thing that matter. also, maxamps site that sells lipos made just for the bandit/rustler/stampede reccomend at lowest a 4000mah lipo. or atleast thats all they are selling under that catagory.

I would not advise you running that 2000 mah lipo in your VXL system. It is probably a 20-25C constant discharge which means 40-50 amps which is marginally disastrous in the long run. The motor will easily pull 60-80 amps under hard acceleration and you will ruin your battery or worse.

You really want to get a lipo that is capable of discharging 80+ amps constant to be on the safe side with lipos.

YOu will be fine with the maxamps 11.1 5000 or even 6000 mah. The 3s 8000 is overkill/heavy (like 19 oz!) and will only give you more runtime and not much faster speeds IMO. The 3s 5000 I have is only 12 oz.....
