RE: save battery stick packs
What do you mean by turbo lag? Are the batts just not working very well anymore? Give us some information about the packs like what brand they are and how old they are.
Without knowing anything else I would suggest a few timed cycles at C/10 for 14 hours. Remember to fully discharge them first before starting a charge cycle.

Have they been in storage for a while? Stored battery packs need a bit of time before they kick back. Treat 'em like new and c/10 charge 'em I'd say three or four times.

What brushless system do you run? I'm no electric guru but I think that with some systems you can upgrade the software which sometimes helps cogging (if it is cogging). Try, as suggested above, cycling the batteries. If that doesn't help then I'm all out of ideas...... buy a lipo[>:] and chuck the duds[:@]

My older venom 3000 mah pack would make my car act just like yours. The brushless is demanding power that the battery can't provide, but it smooths out as speeds progress.

Get a c/10 charger and charge it for 14 hours. Then drive it slow until it completely dies out (wont move and if I want it to discharge more I let it sit for another couple minutes. That is the cheap way. What is the lowest amp setting on your charger? Does your charger use a Flex? It puts a little charge into them and then discahrges a bit. Good for reviving old batteries.
