some 60/40 rosin core solder. also depending on what you are soldering ive found it to be really helpfull having a hobby stand. basicly a block of wood with two aligator clips mounted on a strong wire or any bendable post. it s like having an extra set of hands to help ya!

there is also a stand like mentioned before. it has several aligator clips on it and a magnifying glass... helps hold stuff together so you dont burn your fingers. I cant find it on there site though...

VERY GOOD ONE!!! How to solder wires properly and more

Hope these shine some light on your soldering needs. It's not as simple as it looks but it isn't that hard to learn. Just takes time to PERFECT! a good variable temperature soldering iron is a blessing when it comes to soldering different sizes of items.
Good luck!

How about going to the LHS and having them show you how to do it. This would be better than learning from the internet. Visual Stimulation is better than looking at a picture.

yeah... its better to have someone show you... I find it hard to explain the "touch" needed to get a good clean joint over a text medium even though I am (time to brag here) darn good with a soldering iron.
