Default Official Heng Long MAD TRUCK Thread

Hey, this is the Official Heng Long Mad Truck Thread. I dont think anyone has ever made one of these threads so i decided to make one.

If you have any questions i will try my best to answer them.

Feel free to post anything. Post your pictures, videos etc. Or tell us about any modifications you have done.

So far mine has no modifications, but i am thinking about getting a brushless motor for it, that would be sweet.

Here are some photos of my Mad Truck!

Hey, to get parts for this truck i recommend http://www.auctioncityaustralia.com....are-parts.html .They ship to USA.
I cant tell yet if there are any major downfalls, because the time ive had my Mad Truck i havnt had any major problems. Exept one time when i was going really fast and i crashed my front right wheel into a big rock, that broke the servo, but it was a easy fix.

I have seriously considered getting one of these, so this thread should become usefull.

Questions so far.
Picture 3 above. Did you drive it into that pose or put it there? I ask as I am interested to see if with a change in gearing this thing might crawl o.k.

Just how fast do you think it is? I have seen claims of 60 kmh which I suspect are horse$%1t
Is the stock radio any good? Range? Esc and servo response?
Does the esc have brake and reverse or just straight from forward to reverse?

I am keen to follow this one.

I find that stuff Heng Long makes are usually pretty good quality for the price compare to other brands. HBX is another one of those cheap and decent quality chinese brands.

Hey Simon, in picture 3 i just put the truck there for a nice pose, but it could easily drive down that, and it will probably drive up that with a different geared motor and crawler setup. Have you seen the videos on youtube with this truck modified into a crawler.

They claim that it goes 60 kmh and that is horse$%1t, but it will reach around 50 kmh with a good battery.

The stock radio is good, a bit complicated to use though. The range is quarter mile as far as i read somewhere, ive never gone out of range. The esc and servo response is all good.

My esc is set just forward to reverse, but im pretty sure you can set it to brake.

Hope this helps!

Hey, you wont believe what happend to me. I was driving my mad truck in my court, i was going almost full speed i turned and lost control and hit the gutter really really hard. It wasnt working, by then i thought it broke really bad. I took the shell off and i saw the receivers cover came off and all the cables plugged up to the receiver unplugged, when i was putting it back together i didnt know where to plug all the cables in, but i figured it out and it was all good. That shows that its a pretty tough truck.

Hey All
I was just wondering how long your Mad Truck battery lasts for? I seem to only get about 10 minutes out of mine. I've had other 4WD RC's before and they lasted a lot longer than 10 minutes.

Yeah. EXP is exponential. It makes the throttle input to receiver throttle output curve from linear to exponential (x^n), making throttle sensitivity more or less sensitive near the neutral point.

If your using the batteries it came with then mine last around 10 minutes aswell. Your other RC's lasted a lot longer because they probably had higher mah. If you want longer run times for your mad truck you have to buy batteries with higher mah, so instead of 1800mah buy around 4000mah, you will also need a better charger that will charge you new battery faster.

you sull strip diffs like tehy were made of...well plastic lol.
leave it brushed.

i dont really like these trucks but they are very appealing, but alas weak design and no hop ups avaliable.

Hello Guys .

Just Bought one a these trucks. I figured might as well buy a cheap truck to begin my RC hobby with. . . 1st time out, 1st tumble. there goes the servo gears in the steering box. . . Okay . . so I took the little junker apart and rotated the gears to unsheared teeth . .

I grabbed up a Metal Gear servo on Ebay for 27 bucks. This will bound to happen again. I also picked up a Venom Racing 7.2 Volt 5000mAH 6-Cell Battery Pack.

Question :

What kind of runtime gain do you think I will see ? Performace? with this new battery as opposed to the stocker ?

Will the Stock charger be sufficient ? If not do you have any reasonable recommendations for a charger ? one that will accomodate my future RC needs if I decide to go large and really get into this hobby ?

DAMO, I read your threads in Battery/Charger . Didnt seem like those chargers them guys were reccomending were for our application. Maybe i`m wrong on that. But I doubt them airplanes are carrying a 7.2 stick in them.

So far it has been fun working on it, repairing it. and chasing neighbors cats down the street with it.

Also, the ChingLish manual lacks much to be desired. Would like to see much better explanations of the controls functions, and all the various adjustments. Hell It took me a sunday to get the thing to begin to respond to the radio ! had to swap the motor wire polarity to get the truck to run in the right direction !!!! PfffffT

I have one of these, they are OK but have the same problem that the Himoto, Exceed, Redcat trucks have
1. Weak stub axles made out of cheap pot metal that snap under any hard load
2. Weak Dog bones that will twist and snap(made out of the same pot metal)
3. Funky pinion .05 .06 ???
4 No parts support at all unless you order from overseas $$$$$.

Of course I put a VXL system in mine[8D] and now its in the parts bin.
So if you do get one, keep it stock and live with the snail slow speed.
Your better off getting a Bonzer

LOL

Thanks for yer reply Ludeman.

From my searches, This truck hasnt been sold over here very long (US). Soo maybe with the sales will come shops willing to stock the parts. As I said In my earlier post, This is my 1st RC.

Chatters on other forums have said not to waste too much money on this RC. soo I will cautiously spend on it. I`m gonna be pissed if I break something on my next outing. I`m not the basher type. But I sure wouldnt mind having the reliability they claim to have with thiers. .

Heres a tip from another HL truck dude

"the truck it self is built good what breaks the most ,well is (1) the servo saver has a spring in it that is to strong even at its litest setting it has no give to it....disassemble and snip off the first turn of the spring keeping the good end of the spring facing down to the plastic
this is the bigest reason the servos get riped up (2) the servos are light duty and can't take mutch bashing (3) the receivers may or may not keep working (4) the ESC isn't the best either ""

This cat on Ebay is stocking stuff for our trucks. checkitout

i hate seeing noobs go and boy things that arnt ment to be bought...we were all here once though

venom backs have a little issue of CATCHING FIRE!!! and mostly burn up your truck...tehy are prolly the most hated batterys in hte world.

and secondly..the mad truck isnt a copy of anything unlike other hceap trucks so there are no hop ups and it's also a weak truck to start with.

get all of them fixed up and running and sell them before you pour all of your hard earned $$ into them

BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING LOOK IT UP ON FORUMS FIRST as you'll find things like venom's blowing-up habit, the weak mad truck and how intergy's aluminium is rubbish.

i can stress this enough..although tecnicaly the mad truck is hobby grade...i still think it's basicly a glorifyed toy grade RC

Hi

I am a newbie just starting this hobby.

Looks like I have made two mistakes you have advised against... Buying this poor quality truck (one week ago!) and putting a brushless motor in it! No problems yet!

But from what you say, it seems imminent I am going to rip the diffs and some of the related powertrain hardware soon.

Can you please advise on how much it cost you to upgrade your powertrain, and whether it was a complicated process (particularly given that I am a newbie!)?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

Prasanna

sell it quick on ebay and prey some other n00b buys it.
they are weak and just not up to anything but stock (even stock it's a bit dubious)

these are not such a bad truck from what i have seen , and been reading , they get bad press because they were made in china , the drive train is the least of your worries it looks to be tough most parts are steel , they do make a brushless version of this truck so it carn,t be that bad , from what i can gather the electronics such as the servo esc and reciever are poor quality and are best changed out . other than that i see no problem with them , ....[link]http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=637585[/link]
