Greetings,
I am running Win98 on my machine and would like to
connect my Tower Hobbies System3000 6 channel
radio to the game port on my pc. Since I have
access to electronics experts, is there a diagram of
this cable ? How does it connect to the TX ?
As the subject says, I'll be using FSM.
thanks in advance.

Have a look on my [link=http://myweb.absa.co.za/eric.brouwer/index.htm]web[/link] for different type of interfaces for the home constructor. There are FMS Serial PIC as well as joystick interface plans available.

Hi there,
First of all your radio is either via the printer port or serial port for the FMS software.
Never have seen a cable for the game port. More recently there are some cables available for the USB port but there are expensive and I don't know how well they work.
If you still need cabling info email me and I'll send you the web addresses that I have.
Good Luck,
JJ

I found the diagram on Eric Brouwer's website.
I see that the computer end of the cable is a DB9.
What connector must I use on the TX side ? IE,
where does the cable plug into on my radio ?
thanks.

LT40, your transmitter must have a training port (buddy port) where you can plug the interface in. Also, on my web, you will find several radio connections with pin layouts.
I do not know your transmitter, but maybe it has a plug similar to this one:

Your site does have my plug on it (system3000 FM6).
Where can I buy the plug to make my cable ? In the US
we have Radio Shack, etc. Is this a common type plug,
if so what is its number ?
thanks.

Hey there LT40...I am in the exact same boat as you...trying to hook up a TH-Sys3000 6ch.(FYI, our buddyplug is located directly under the Frequency sticker on the back of the Tx casing.) I just went to 3 local Radio Shacks today...and guess what...[sm=confused.gif]NO 6 pin dinns(what we need on the Tx side). They quit carrying them sometime a while ago-according to clerks. Looks like ordering 1 on-line, or LHS is the best/only bet[>:] If I can't find one soon I'm just gonna order a complete adapter (6pin Dinn-to-Serial Port) from [link=http://www.mattclement.freeservers.com/fms/fms.html]Matt Clement's Website[/link]
Or maybe someone else knows where a better place is to find the 6-pin adaptor end!!??
I have been all over the web searching for buildsites, materials, ect...<sigh> (BTW...great info on your site Eric[sm=thumbup.gif] )
Let me know how it goes for you LT40 and I'll do the same.
Bri
PS-I would also like to hook up an old AM Tx w/o a buddy cord port. If anyone is proficent in this...PM me for a Tx interior pic if you can show me where I can take the "control" out to extract pre-transmission signal [8D] Thanx!!

Darn it.....nice thought Eric....but no dice either[>:]
Nada in radio shack LT40......so I wound up going and buying the d^%$ cable at LHS.
$14 bucks......not too bad. I'm just gonna whack one end off and use it.[sm=devious.gif]
ps-Eric, or anyone, any thoughts on that non-buddy cord output?? Here's what the inside of my Tx looks like-I just need to know where to jump output signal from[sm=confused.gif]

Find the trainer switch on top of the radio and look on the inside to verify that it is a three-pole switch (probably spring loaded one way). With the trainer switch in its normal position, the PWM signal comes in on one side and goes back out to the RF deck through the center pole. With the trainer switch pulled the other way, the PWm signal comes in from the other radio on the other side of the three-pole switch and goes back out to the RF deck on the center wire. You need to pull the PWM signal from the center pole and feed that to FMS through the parallel or serial interface you build.
An example is on my web page at:

That would be great if I had a Switch on my Tx.....but alas it is not so. Thats what I'm stumped on where 2 find signal. I guess I'll just go over it point by point with my multi untill I find my signal v....I think around 4.6v.
Good link though Chris.....thanx.

I took another look at the picture you posted. Your RF deck is the smaller board on the left. The PWM signal should be one of the 5 wires coming over from the main board on that 5-pin connector on the bottom. Follow the trace from those 5 conectors back to ground/power/IC's ... One of them should be the signal. If you have access to an oscilliscope, you should be able to pick it out easily.

Chris,
I was kinda guessin' the same as my crystal is in the smaller board, and I see exactly what u mean about the jumped section. ...and I'm in the process of hunting an oscilloscope program on-line. Many thanks for the conformation.
Also...why do you use the transistor in this model and not the diode I've seen in others?

Have a look on my [link=http://myweb.absa.co.za/eric.brouwer/electronincs.htm]web[/link], there is software available for a scope using your PC's soundcard.

The connectors can be found at www.cablestogo.com. The 5-pin male is $0.99us and the 6-pin male is $2.99us.
