Didn't mean to put you down but I was speaking of the Update Aspect of G2. I like the just about everything else that G2 has to offer, but their tech support sucks. BTW when did you get the update, I've been trying for the past week and still no such luck.

I got G2 shortly after it came out and I've NEVER been able to update from the primary server. I've only succeeded twice in updating through the control panel. Any other times, I always end up with corrupted files and G2 no longer runs. I always have to manually download the files from a site that Real Flight support gives me. When I do that, the update always works.

Don't know what the big secret is about updating. Why can't they do things like any other software supplier does, just allow you to download updated files.

I won't buy G3, software released early, is buggy and requires that its customers be beta testers.

I called their customer service and emailed them a couple times. Then I emailed them and asked them if maybe I should go buy a different simulator. They emailed me back promptly with a link to manually update g2 and now it works fine. It's not your computers or firewalls. They can't figure out why it works for some and not others.

I just got G2 for X-Mas When I went to update, like the book told me to do I kept getting error 183 and 4352. So I downloaded the new conrtol panel. Now every time I try to open the control panel it says it has to complete the download and I get error 183 and 4352. So last night when I did this again and it ask me if I wanted to conect to the second server I said no. Then the control panel open up and I clicked on update and it did. Why I have know idea. Now I have the latest version but when I try to open the conrol panel it says it has to coplete the download and trys to conect to the internet! Kind of frustrating. Sofar I like G2 I just hope they will get this fixed and don't leave us out here hanging! Happy New Year Scott!

Scott,

I had the same problem and found an easy fix.

1. Open the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\KinfeEdge\CPanel.ini with a text editor (like notepad)
2. Find the line that says "ContinueUpdate=1" and change it to "ContinueUpdate=0"

This will solve the problem.

After reading this last post, I tried to get a little creative. At the first query about alternate site, I clicked NO. The screen immediately came up about register or update. I clicked on update and the error about unable to connect and the second server came up. I then clicked yes and got right on whereby it said that the version .723 that I have is the latest one.

I guess someone wrote some code in a hurry and never checked to see if it actually worked?

Enjoy,

Jim

Slade,

Glad it worked for you too! I just looked in the .ini file for something that looked like it would make it try to finish an update, and ContinueUpdate seemed right. I figured I could always change the number back if it goofed things up

Happy New Year!

They could save us and themselves all kinds of headaches if they just posted the updates to their website and let us download them and then extract them on our computers like 99.99% of other software makers.

I shouldn't have to log on to a secret server to get a software update.

Uhummm, I just spoke with GPS and they redirected me to a different site. The server is DOWN!!! BOTH SERVERS are DOWN!! They wont be up till sometime this week or later on in the year is what they told me. I can't give you the site address as it was mentioned to me not to reveal the sites address, it is part of their private infrastructure and limit bandwith to that server. It is not a public domain but you can get a direct link emailed to you if you speak with GPS tech Support.

Have Fun on Hold, I waited 15 minutes.

My cpanel.ini file didn't contain that line so I added it.

Still can't get through to either the primary or secondary servers.

Do you have to have the transmitter hooked up to the computer to make it work?

Don,

I had my controller connnected. Make sure you have the control panel that will automatically check the secondary server. If you are not sure, you can download it here:

Good luck,

Carl
