Well after weeks of frustration trying to iron out mis-communications between Ohio Model Planes and myself I finally purchased Reflex XTR. I have not yet been acknowledged by Ohio Model Planes in reguard to wanting my money refunded for the Upgrade I paid for but did not follow thru with and have not recieved. . . Hello, I wanted the upgrade with the Game Commander Controller but that was not happening, and I had made the mistake of believing it was!!! Since it is not, Please refund my money Ohio MP. . .
OK Enough of that!
Here is my first experience with Reflex XTR.
Reflex XTR, First Impressions
My first reaction to Reflex XTR was a laugh, as the size of the box was supprisingly small and square.
My second reaction was Oh @!#!! the usb connection provided is oversized to such an extent that I had to remove my USB ecard reader in order to plug it in. The bloody thing is taking up usage of my 2 usb ports all by itself! Bad designing by the engineers!!!
Ok it is quite expensive to come with no controller.
That said, on to the simulator. . .
Installing the software went smoothly.
Connected my 9chp to the dongle
Started up the software, Noticed that the model editor has been installed also.
Start up screen read:
"Calibrate center position."
"Please activate your transmitter and center all
gimbals, trims, switch and prop channels!"
Extra note: In the background I noticed that the grass field looked very realistic.
Hum, I then realized that I did not want to use my current plane configuration, so I had better create a new model for Reflex XTR.
I then took the time necessary to Create a new Model for Reflex Simulator.
Time to review the 9chp manual, I had not created a new entry in months, now what did I do with that manual. . .
*** "Remove the RF Module" ***
What, what? Oh, Quite right. . . ok.
Thank goodness for PDF manuals. . .
So #min later I reconnect Xmitter and reopen Reflex XTR,
Calibration in progress . . . Result of calibration, No signal . .
Hum?
The radio had seemed to go on when I plugged in the cable, maybe if I switch on the radio at the power button, click on "Retry Calibration" No signal . . .
Hum?
I turn off and unplug the Xmitter, time to look at the notes that came with simulator!
UGH,
ok its off to www.runryder.com trying to find help getting 9chp recognized and functional.
Wait a minute, didnt I see something about looking under help in the simulator? Checking. . .
!!! Cant find help on the Reflex menu? !!!
Am I feeling stupid or what? ~
Oh, finally I notice a "?" on the menu and under it is the word "Help" and F1 for a short cut.
Hum, something about installing the USB driver. . . Ok I dont read the german but I will try to work with it. . .
Since I did not see any windows about installing USB drivers I suppose I need to search for the file "reflex.inf" and install it.
Located the file, right clicked selected install. Nothing.
Hum, Ugh, lets check in the control panel under "game controllers"
nothing showing up there now.
Cripes, Ok back to the web for awhile. . .
That was a chore. . . you have to manually force the driver to be installed. It would not find it automatically.
Now lets see if it has made things work.
No Signal!!!
OOPS!!! radio was set on PCM, resetting to PPM.
Double checking to see if windows recognizes the controller.
Hum, nothing listed under game controllers.
Restarting Reflex XTR simulator.
Calibrating, Successful. . .
Adjustment channel assignment, Hum, what should be what?
Nothing here to compare,
OK, under "Radio" on the menu, I located "Channel display"
This gave me some idea of what the current stick channel assignment was.
Channels 1 thru 8;
1 set to aileron
2 set to elevator
3 set to throttle.
4 Set to rudder
5 set to G switch
6 set to VR(A)
7 set to VR(C)
8 set to VR(B)
Assigned the channels to control as follows;
1 set to aileron
2 set to elevator
3 set to throttle.
4 Set to rudder
5 set to G switch = Landing Gear
6 set to VR(A) Ignored
7 set to VR(C) Ignored
8 set to VR(B) Ignored
There, went back to the main screen, ok now how do I get this thing flying? Under Simulation on the menu "Start" or "F4" were options, also right clicking on the main screen provided the same options.
To stop you simply press the "ESC" key.
So I am off and flying, Quite pretty, flight seem fairly realistic and I know there is more configuring I can do.
The movement is very coppy, must mean I need to tweak FPS somewhere I suppose.
Also when flying behind oneself an invisible wall is hit and and red diagonal lines appear. The simulator then resets the plane to the initial landing position.
Upon closing the program a notice appears saying "Turn off your transmitter" I wish AeroflyPro did that.
So there you have it, my first experience installing and configuring Reflex XTR to fly.
Obviously I have a learning curve to go thru with this simulator.
I still like Aeroflypro also, I wonder what the images in Aeroflypro Deluxe are like, but I am upset about Aeroflypro not offering their controller with the upgrade as an option. It appears that I must sell AeroflyPro and then if I still want it!!! Buy the Deluxe version that comes with the Game Commander. For all the trouble, I think that the best controller available that I have used is the Futaba game controller that comes with the RealFlight Simulators. Cant say the same for the RealFlight simulators themselves though.
That's it folks.

All I have to say about my first impression with Reflex XTR is WORD!
The ONLY problem I had with the install was plugging the cord into my 9C. It was a real tight fit. Other than having a problem
plugging in the cord, the set up was a breeze including calibration. I just wish flying the Logo was that easy! lol
All in all, I'm VERY happy with my Reflex.

Driftair, the #1 method of contacting OMP are these forums as per our website. PM's are not listed on the contact us and I never got an email. Hence ... we have these forums.
So when you come on the forums and say you can't get in touch with us, I just don't understand. It does not matter if it's for a refund or just to say hello.
Actually there is an upgrade for the Commander, but you must already have the Commander.
You want to upgrade from the Interface to the Commander and it's just not an option and was never presented as that option. It's very clear on AFP's website of what you send in vs. what you get.
Also the ironic thing is you went from AFP to XTR, which is fine. But they don't have a Commander at all.
Selling your AFP Interface and purchasing the Commander would have been a fine option if you wanted to do that. In fact most people are purchasing the full version of Deluxe Interface instead of getting the upgrade and doing just that.
Also if you say you have the RealFlight controller that will work for AFP and Deluxe.
Either way your refund is coming today.

Thank you STLPilot,You are the only contact connected with OMP I have been able to get a response from.
Other means I have tried except to PM you, have not recieved any response.
Yes, Purchasing Reflex XTR was a choice I made with the knowledge that it did not include a controller.
And I have sold some other simulator software, and plan to sell AeroflyPro in the near future.
That may lead to purchasing the deluxe version with the Game Commander Controller.
I do not like having no option to buy the Game Commander, other than to sell AeroflyPro first! That sucks.
I realize it is the manufacturers policy and not yours ie Ohio Model Planes choice for that policy.
Thank you for your assistance in processing a refund for me.
I am glad you have so many contact options available when many don't seem to be working.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely
Clark, ~ driftair

If you have lots of unnecessary services running it will impact Reflex XTR.
I say this a lot, and some people are probably thinking I'm crazy by now, but I recommend you try the Extra 300s at www.rc-sim.de.
It's very nice to fly.
