My experience has been that the patch program in your computer for getting on the second site has some errors in it? First of all when you select the 2nd site after the first one didn't work, the program in your computer will crash. Instead, the first time, enter "no" and it will try the second site. The 2nd time you are asked about the second site you have to enter yes. Then when you get to the 2nd site, it times out after one second and jumps out of the net loop. Seems crazy???
The main G2 software hasn't been updated since last spring.
Enjoy,
Jim

Yes, It seems it's been down for weeks. Tried different times of the day and evening but it doesn't matter. Maybe they're going to shut it down now that G3 is out?

Oh, and we are definitely not shutting it down because G3 is out. Our priorities do shift according to customer's needs, but right now there are still plenty of G2 customers that need to have this server functional, so we're going to make that happen.

Yes, we have been having problems with it for quite a while now. The secondary server should work though. If it doesn't try the "USEBACKUPSERVER" option. To do this, click the Technical Support button in control panel followed by the "Enter Tech Support Code" button and then type "USEBACKUPSERVER" (without using quotes). That should work for you until we get the main server back up and running.

I've only been able to get on with the secondary server. The primary has been down for a long time now.
I've invested so much money into G2; main program with four add-ons, I don't think it's worth the price to start over and go to G3.

Didn't work for me. It says I have entered the wrong code and have no permission to be there.
Do I have to have the transmitter connected in order to update using the control panel?
Why, oh why, can't we download updates as a files and open/install it on our computers? Having to go through the update control panel when the update servers are all hosed up kind of sucks.

Edit Revision #3: Okay, I tried it again...use the technique in the quote, then, after unchecking the PASV mode and saying okay, instead of picking "Update to latest version" go to advanced and pick "Update to specific version" I chose 2.00.723 as I had the most recent one before that.
It downloaded on the 3 rd try and I am now fully updated...No, HONEST, REALLY!!!
Seems the servers are on again/off again.
Don
Edit Revision #2:Well, spoke too soon. It downloaded something but apparently not the whole update. It downloaded the new control panel but then it crashed again when I tried to update to the newest version.
Oh well, the technique below will get you the new control panel...little good that it does.
Don
Hey, this worked ...I just downloaded the update!!! WooHoo! got it off the Knifedge discussion page: http://12.156.2.54/forums/showthread.php?t=9327

Hey, I had to download a new version of the Real Flight G2 Control panel. Then this allowed me access to the 2nd server. Once you download it you need to run the new control panel and do the following if you have cable or dsl internet. In the control panel click Online Updates now Click on Proxy Settings. Disable the Use PASV mode check box. Then click ok. Now it should try to connect if does not click on Update to latest Version. Now it will not take you to the first server but will now ask if you want to connect to the secondary server. Click OK. Keep doing this until you get through and eventually it will download the update. That should fix your problem. If you need the file for the control panel setup I have it on my desktop so email me at [email protected] and I will send you the updated control panel. It's roughly 1.8 MB. Let me know and I hope this helps.

Try this;
1. Open the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\KinfeEdge\CPanel.ini with a text editor (like notepad)
2. Find the line that says "ContinueUpdate=1" and change it to "ContinueUpdate=0"
This will solve the problem.
I tried for weeks to update, cfossa figured this out,Thanks!

Yeah, I tried cfossa's method and it didn't work for me. The one I got elsewhere (3 posts up) didn't work until the 3rd try. But it worked.
Oh well, now those who are having problems have two methods that may help them out.
Good Luck everybody...I got mine! WooHoo

Come on now,how long does it take to get a server up and running.I am not buying into this one. What Great Planes/Knife Edge really needs to do is to resolve the software problems(even if they have to start from scratch again!) they have with both G-2 and G-3.Then issue a 'FREE' CD of each version that really does what it was intended to do(without having to update the software) in the first place to registered customers of G-2 and G-3.I have never seen problems out there anything close to theirs on any other product i have purchased,be it a video game or other software.Someone in upper managment surley wasn't up to the task on these projects right from the start.

Jeff,Great!,Man i know the feeling,nothing worked untill i did cfossa'a suggestion,then it updated.
Fletch, feel real bad for you, only thing i can think of is to call tech support.Forget emails, that will take awhile cause i am sure they are a bit busy. The original software is the problem,,just doesn't cut the mustard.

Fletch,
Can you describe what happens when you try to connect? Perhaps I can help.

Hi,
I tried to get on it says I have to register first. Well, I registered it years ago when it first came out. Anyway, all my registration info, including the password that was hidden, was there; I clicked OK, and it comes back that I can't register because someone else registed it with a different password! That someone is ME! I don't have copy's, these are the original discs that I bought at Hobby Hut in Pompton Plains, NJ. I need the update because when the program loads all I get is a white screen.
Oh well, the WRAM show is another month and maybe I'll get AFPD. Too bad, I had some really nice repaints for the planes in G2.
OH well.....
Brg,
Jon
