Default AFPD lands on the moon! How to EASILY create panos.

OK, well I spent a couple hours on this and now can easily take any QVR and convert it to AFPD within about 15 minutes using Fireworks/Photoshop and any basic photo stich.

I screen capped the moon from this website: http://www.panoramas.dk/ converted them to JPG's, then transferred the captures to Panorama Factory and within minutes I had the panorama. Resized the pano 8192 x proportional then filled in the blank space with matching colors after making sure the canvas size was 8192 x 4096. Then run the AFPD Installer ... that's it. There are hundreds of QVR's at this website. I can't find anything about use of the images, but I will find out. Times Square, NYC is going to be the next one!

Anyhow ... here is my first attempt of the moon. Going to make a better one as soon as I can.

I assume you mean the infamous photo from the "moon" which was apparently shot in the Southern CA desert or on a clear nite with multiple "suns" or on a soundstage. There certainly is something rather fishy about this photo. I don't know where the source of the images of the moon QVR is from. Supposed to be from the moon, at least that where our parents and grandparents tax dollars was supposed to take the Apollo guys???? Where it really went ... who knows.

The full size images is an RCU glitch that they have had for a while. Hopefully tomorrow they will be smaller.

Also I wanted to add that website also has a list of Pano's in your state. You can see the list here:

Well I used Panorama Factory which is some trialware I found. But it's really simple. You'll want 2 or 3 rows x all the way around (which is about 6 around using the QVR's from that website link) of photos making sure that the horizon for the pano is in the middle. This will give the best perspective for the airplane relative to the altitude of the ground in retrospect. Just capture them one at time, but what I can't stand about Pano Factory is that all the images must be the same size, a real PIA, so I'm going to find a better pano prog that can use mulit size images. But basically you just screen cap, crop and add to the pano program and most of the good stitching progs will do the auto stitching and blending. You just need to learn that stiching program. Pano Factory took me about 3 minutes to learn, but it's very basic.

I've also learned that you can zoom in / zoom out the QVR before you screen capture. This is AWESOME because you can figure out exactly what zoom you need to be at to make the airplane look in perspective compared to the environment of the image. For instance did you ever notice in some homeade scenes for AFPD that planes look to big or too small compared to the environtment around it? Well you can control that. The only bad part is that it's trial and error and could take you a long time to get it right.

Your finished product needs to be 8192 x 4096. After you create the pano usually you will have some blank space above or below the image. Just resize the image to either 8192 x proportional. Then resize the canvas keeping the image centered. It's ok to have about 10-15% of blank space top or bottom because in the sphere it will be hard to notice. Make sure you do the resize before you convert it with AFPD Installer which will resize it ... but you'll get to to more custom things to it using Photoshop/Fireworks.

Ha! Looks good. I never saw that SkyShip.

There are some other good Martian panos at http://www.panoramas.dk/ that I'll get cracking on after the weekend.

NOW all we need is that object detection tool that IPACS is working on. That will ROCK!

The skyship is an Easyfly aircraft it's on RC-Sim and here's the info about converting Easyfly planes for use in AFPD(if you have not seen it already):

OK figured out something even cooler. I found some unstichted steroscopic panoramic images of the same Mars shots from Greg's post above. I took a couple of these real quick and loaded them on white screens and loaded into AFPD and it works! You will need some red/blue glasses to see the scenery in 3D, but they are cheap or you can make these out of blue and red plastic stuff.

I'll get these scene stiched up by Monday but then also found other stereoscopic images panos around the net too that just need to be stiched up or blended for red/blue glasses which is really simple to do with multilayering/coloring.

More info coming.

NASA always uses:
left eye: RED
right eye: cyan
for their 3d photo

I dont know about red/cyan, but my red/blues work perfect.

These were the old style glasses used in the 50's and 60's for 3D movies. They are widely used on the Internet and books and stuff for viewing black and white stereoscopic images.

If you do a Google search for "3d objects" you will find thousands of these images on the web.

But now I found the same Mars images as the first Mars pano that I posted in 3D. So if you have these glasses the scenery is 3D. It's pretty cool.

You can make them easily with blue and red cellophane and piece of posterboard.
