I would like to get a RC flight sim to practice on while i'm learning to fly. The computer I have is the one I use for work. I know a lot of games don't like laptops because they like a lot of hardware video acceleration.
Mine is a AMD K6 2 533 Mhz
13.3 " active display
64 MB RAM

RF Classic requires a P90, 16MB RAM, and a 3D video card for P200 and lower.

I should be ok right?

Not many do, but does your laptop have a game port? I think it is a 15 pin DB-15. Or, do you have a USB port?

You will need a game port, the kind that comes with sound cards for full-sized computers

I have seen a converter box that will let you use your laptop, but I have no information on it now. Try looking through this forum for mention of it. Also, some sims can use an LPT (printer, parallel) port.

Do you have a transmitter now? If so, RealFlight has a version that comes with a cable to attatch your transmitter through the LPT port. Check it out at the interface page.

Also, the LPT adapter may cause trouble with host-based (windoze only) printers and bi-directional printing in general. Check out the requirements for your system. The new version RFG2 requires an 8mb video card.

I am looking at new laptops right now. The delll that I am looking at has a choice of a 16mb ati card, or a 32mb NVidia. Don't know if you want to smack down another $2000 just for a sim, even for one that can really help...

Talk to your boss. Tell him how much more work you can do with a new laptop If he needs a business case for one, or just a decent reason, I am sure you can find a flight of concrete stairs to drop it down... :surprised
