Got version 3.5 downloaded and installed. Question: Can't seem to locate the new features such as "Streamers" or "Night Flight". How does one activate these????

The clear download cache button is on the online updating under advanced options. Hope this helps the server is down at this time.

To view night flying you need to select a night time photofield such as Grass Flatlands(night) or a night time 3D flying site such as Flight School(night) or Obstacle Course(night)

With regards to Streamers you add them to the wings of your chosen aircraft using the editor…

from Joe Teibel at Knife edge ...

In the aircraft editor, select the component e.g. wing, fuselage, etc. that you'd like to add the streamer too then select "Add Streamer Component" (it will say, "Add Symmetrical Streamer Component" for components like wings, meaning it will add one to each side) from the Edit menu. If that item is not in the Edit menu, you cannot add a streamer component to whatever component you have selected.
There is also a Yak 54 with streamers fitted already.

The G3.5 physics modified the behaviour of all the planes.

This issue is being looked at, and KE has announced that they will issue a patch to address the matter.

Tried the 3.5 for a few hours in the last two days. No performance or freezing problems, but I did noticed that planes are much harder to hover and torque roll.

At first I thought that this was an improvement on the physics but now I see that it is a problem. Do you where to find more information about it?

I would go back to G3 but the new functionalities are nice......it'd be better if they release the patch soon

I run it in a Dell Laptop with 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HD, 224 MB Video card.
You can find all of our posted complaints about this on the http://www.knifeedge.com/forums pages.

Join the fray, post your complaints.

I noticed this when I first tried to snap roll the planes.

Many would not do this properly.

It turns out that there are tiny changes in the tail authority and wing stall values that are causing all the problems.

KE didn't acknowledge this until there was an overwhelming clamour from their user base.

Now they are "looking into it...".

I hope they come out with a patch soon, as all user plane creation is stalled, pending a patch that will in turn change how they all fly AGAIN.

OK, let's through a curve ball at everyone. The wife looks at the carnival park flying site and says " OK, I've had enough of this creepy place. No people, no flood lites on the grounds around the rides, no carnival sounds, deserted, spooky, just like something out of a Stephen King book. Kinda scares me " I wonder if the guys at GP would have expected this remark !! Even for me I guess it is a little unnerving flying there !! On to the alpine meadows. Any body figure out where this was photoed ? MM

Just add the billboard people into the mix.

You can do this yourself.

Yes, they are working on it.

Download the 256meg single file from the main site instead. It's a lot quicker to get.

Well I downloaded and installed the upgrade to 3.5 before I saw the posts on the physics problem...

It's there alright and as opjose said, snaps are a problem and just try to get it into a spin! So I went back to the 3.0 and still have problems with the airplanes. The Patty Wagstaff Extra I got and use most for my IMAC practice won't even do a knife edge anymore in 3.0, so I went back to the 3.5.

I hope the patch is in the works as I don't really want to un-install everything and then go back with fresh installs of the whole 3.0 stuff and upgrade versions.

I have a feeling that Knife Edge is going to be looking for new management before long. This release was a major business FUBR that will hurt.

They’ve released an upgrade that according to them had only been tested by “professional pilots†(and probably only using a few ‘professional’ type planes). The upgrade has obvious physics flaws as well as subtle other problems, like not being able to go back to a previous version once you’ve upgraded.

AND, they released it just before a lot of us will be entering our winter non-flying time! Which means that more then the usual customer, shopping for a realistic RC flight simulator to use during the “off†season. Will be looking closely at “RealFlight’s†competitors. Plus, I think that a large number of current G3.0 users will not be upgrading to G3.5 ... or those who can afford it, will “upgrade†to another flight sim.

In any other business scenario, that I’m aware of, where something like this has happened, it wasn’t long before management was pounding the pavement looking for a new job.

G3 had just as many unhappy customers when it first came out. After many patches it turned into a good sim and sales took off. FSOne has some issues regarding physics but both companies listen to the customers and improve. This just seems to be the norm for RC sims. I went back to G3 myself but once I hear they fix 3.5 physics, I'll try it again. I'd say if you don't like G3.5, just go back and reload G3 (kind of a pain with all the add-ons I know) and wait until they fix up 3.5.

I personally did the 3.0 > 3.5 > FS one upgrade. I must say I'm very pleased with FS one. Very nice.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of activity at KE regarding the physics issue.

I believe a patch is imminent from what the staff has indicated.

With a small fix 3.5 will be the best sim out, as 3.0 was.

Well I have sat here thru all the upgrades and have yet to see this work even remotely like the real thing...maybe good for training your fingers but not one of them lands like a real model, and I have downloaded just about everthing in the larger scales in an effort to find something like a real 35%.
If I could get even half my money back I would be happy.
As a game maybe it halfway decent but with the system requirements, floatyness and now their servers are down I think I give up.
With 3.5 all the editing doesnt seem to do squat as far as nose heavy, rudderless garbage.
Written in frustration, companies get away with half finished software all the time these days!!! IT AINT RIGHT.

3.5 has some issues with the physics, given that it's a brand new release that is not to be unexpected.

However that is not the say that the planes don't fly realistically.

There are plenty of larger scale planes that fly perfectly in 3.0, but require some adjustments under 3.5.

I'd have patience. None of the other sims come as close to the real thing as 3.0 and hopefully so will 3.5.

With adjustments you CAN get the planes to fly much much better, but instead of trying to tweak the flight models, you are better off sticking to 3.0 until 3.5 gets patched. Tweaking the individual flight models is extremely time consuming and you don't start "getting it" until you've explored every parameter provided.

We (the user base, not the KE developement staff) are REALLY on their case about this, and they KNOW they must do something ASAP.

Nah... G3.5 is pretty good.

The complaints are about certain points in the sim that are a bit "off" from real life.

We are a pretty picky crew when it comes to the physics in this sim.

Even with it's failings I consider G3.5 the best of the rest.

Eliminate a couple of small changes, and it will be stellar.

what opjose says, plus..........

RealFlight/Knife Edge has a decent track record for fixing stuff. And they've listened before and fixed stuff before. No reason to expect them to suddenly stop now.

G3.5 will make you happy....In truth I have not noticed anything bad about any of the G3.5 upgrades.

IMO it is the best sim out right now.

And what other choice do you have? What other sim would you buy that isn't right now working on a patch to fix user reported problems? They all are, and the most recent new sim released a patch within a day or so after it's initial release.

I downloaded the 3.5 unprage last night and I am having absolutely no problems with it. I do have a question though, for example the Shoestring doesnt have enough up elevator on low rates to keep it in thesky when I am turning it. It was doing the same thing on G3. Is there a way to get in there and adjust the throws so I can crank it up a little bit on low rates?
Thanks in advance

Yes.

Built into G3 is a "physics" editor.

Load the plane and from the menu select "edit plane".

This drops you into the editor.

Turn on the advanced options, and select the Radio.

Find the channel corresponding the control you want to affect...

You will see the "low rate" parameter.

This adjust what percentage of full travel is to be applied when low rates are set.

You can also select the elevator itself as a part of the horizontal stabilizer, and adjust the number of degrees it moves UP and Down, but this will also increase high rates.

G3.5 is up and running here I think this is going to be a great program. I just got it today and its going to replace my trusty G2 100%.
It will take a little time to get the details down but the basics are still about the same as G2. G3.5 is a nice step , if you are into G2 like I am , I am sure this will be $ well spent!!

now, back to the sim world[8D]

I think ultimately it will be a great program too. I like the new layout. I love the multiplayer. But the present physics have got to be a disappoinment to any accomplished 3D pilot. The problem is, if you want to fly online the versions need to match up and since most folks are flying 3.5 we're pretty much stuck until they make a patch. I've edited my YAK quite a bit. I found the propwash perameter to be the most helpful. BUt it still feels like the aircraft is flying in jello.
