IVe actually posted a mini review of G3.5 a few posts down. "My Experiences wit G 3.5" THe thing that grabbed me to choose G 3.5 is the choice of planes. THese planes exist in real life. I have nearly all the top-flite private planes, a bunch of Great Planes planes and some hobbico electrics in the sim. I think the sim is actually really good. IT certainly boosted my confidence. Im just glad i got A simulator!

To me G3.5 wasn't realistic at all in flying characteristics. Especially around the stall and 3D in general.

RealFlight G3.5 -
Why? Because that's the one I own.

Now, if all the other companies would send free, complete versions of their software, and pay for every necessary new or upgraded piece of computer hardware to run it, many of us would be willing to give them all some truly comparative tests.

Otherwise, all you're reading, and will ever read, are either advertisements or partially-educated opinions.

I started with FMS because it's free. After a few months I decided to try Clearview because it was $30. I spend 90% of my practice time on Clearview but go back to FMS occaisionally because it has turbulence and wind gusts which don't work properely on Clearview on my computer.

I fly AFPD for aircraft and Phoenix for helis. I voted for Phoenix because it is, in my mind, the best I have tried for helis (what I do most of) and will be getting better very soon all round with the 1.04 upgrade. Phoenix customer support is BRILLIANT!!

Reflex is good but the company sucks at customer relations and the infamous red/white bars of doom.

I tried G3.5 and hated it for its consumption of processing power......bloatware. Fixed wing physics are mediocre and even AFPD has better heli physics.

Never tried FSOne - not likely to either.

[sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]AFPD, I learned to fly with it. I soloed after 2 flights with my 15 year Goldberg 40 Eagle at the field last year, because I was constantly flying on my Sim. I was so impressed I designed a 3rd party model for them... I made the Arizona Dr-1. It's one of the most realistic sims out there that I've tested. Plus I like how you can adjust CG, engines etc. The Customer support is top notch, and the addons are fantastic. [sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Now I fly the Hanger 9 PTS ARF ( Custom) P-51D Mustang with working flaps, and without all the trainer stuff on it...and Hanger 9 PNP Cub. Knock on wood, I haven't had a crash yet. ( your eligible too)

My second year of flying glow, and I'm classed intermediate... so AFPD works for me very well.

FMS for me. It was cheap to get running (freeware + $15 link cable + radio radio I already had) gave me enough to get the basics across and have some fun over the winter.

Anyone using a Futaba 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum TX with the FMS? Problems? Suggestions? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks...

how good is the FMS. And what are the computer requirments... A free sim program, that is prety sweet. I like sims (when down at the LHS) because they allow me to crash and not have to pay a thing in repairs, do all sorts of stupid stuff with an expensive plane...

A general point

I am interested to know how someone who "doesn't have all sims" can criticize "all sims" for not simulating certain flight characteristics exactly?

Hmm, seems to be something wrong with the database - my posts keep disappearing.

A request for all of you guys.

When stating which sim is best, please be sure to mention which ones you actually own or have extensive test flights on. Otherwise the content of your post is difficult to interpret.

Anyone will say "Sim X is best" when they own it. Or when someone states, "sim Y is garbage" then please let us know why.

Did the ones that vanished actually answer the question in the topic?
Your last one didn't. Was little more than a challenge to a fight.

This one???? hhhhmmmmmmmmmmm Is good advice.

So, is the message above on topic??

You can delete this if you like but I caught you fair and square - and you know it.

In this topic you openly say that you don't have all sims and yet in another recent topic you severely criticized ALL sims for not modelling certain flight characteristics. When others, including myself tried to get a simple question answered, (what sims have you used?) you hid behind your moderator status and started deleting posts, while at the same time promoting your own opinion.

You can't be a moderator and be biased in your opinions.

The simple fact is, that as stated in my post above, sims are one of the most contentious areas and if anyone, including a moderator, is going to post a strong opinion on one or more, then they should be expected to qualify their opinions with detailed references to back up those opinions.

In this thread I've already stated which sims and why, maybe you should as well - just to clear the air a little. But I doubt you will somehow.

G3.5 seems to be by far the real winner so far in this poll with AFPD a clear second.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5717589/tm.htm

For my own sim interest the various physics of flying an airplane as close to the trainer/plane I am actually going to fly is important. All the other offline and online bells and whistles are not as important as take-off, landing, stalling, variable winds, maybe even air density issues, and crashing...er...crash avoidance realisms. Also, tracking close enough to the airplane to see what it is doing and how it is reacting in pattern work with some reference to the ground/runway is important too.

Cost is not a factor for me, nor is the Windows XP PC--it is already high-end for gaming with an EN8800GTX @1.8 GHz w/ 768 MB RAM graphics card.

1. Will the G3.5 allow uisng any other RC controller such as, in particular, the Spekrum DX7? How important will this option be once I get my feet wet?

2. Will the G3.5 allow adjusting airplane CG and engine offset and other differences if so inclined?

My goal is to get a sim today that I won't be abandoning for something else like the AFPD in two months. If it is important to be able to use your actual RC controller with G3.5 and you can't do it unless it is Futaba that will really really disappoint me--unless this clearly isn't an issue for sims--and I don't know that?

Thank you.

If you're very interested in a specific trainer and feel the need to have it in the sim, then there is a clear answer to that.

G3.5 and FSOne are both biased to each's product line. You'll see Great Planes models in G3.5 and not a Hangar9 to be seen. And vice versa with FSOne.

The truth is, with trainers, none of them fly uniquely enough that it would benefit to have it simulated anywhere.

I'd suggest either of the two most popular simes would be an excellent choice. G3.5 is constantly offering new models. They cost you, but so do the real ones. And it insures that G3.5 stays around in the future. So if new models matter, of the two most popular sims, there is a clear choice.

Beyond that, there are fanboys of every sim. And almost all the sims are good to have on their own. But don't base your purchase on the trainer you might want. There really isn't any trainer that is head and shoulders above the pack. Darned if most of them fly almost exactly like all the rest, in spite of what their advertising says.

The last i check FMS has parimeters files. In other words you can adjust the center of gravity, off set engines or
clip the wings, add mase. It also has photographic sceneries too...at least i do.lol thousands of them.
i also have thousands of modles too. People make them all the time and upload them for free.
You can make your own models and sceneries if you know what you're doing.

How in the heck is a sim manufacturer going to create my model ? The ones i build and bash/modilfied ?
My enigine types, prop configuration ?

I can't give the G3 a fair evaluation from a trail version, the zoom is set back too far.
but i do hate those funkie swirls in the in the trial version scenery, it hurts my eyes.

Okay FMS might not be the greatest thing on the planet...but it'll keep the high dollar sims on thier toes.
and give it a heck of run for the money.

Whatever sim you use, i guess the trick would be is to tried to dial in your tx and your model.
i didn't spend $300 on a computerize TX for nothing

without having to buy new planes every week and wreck them.
I'd just stop getting stuff beyond my current skill level.

FMS; its free, I can use MY transmitter and buddy cord to interface it, and its fairly realistic in how the model flies.

I dont need pretty graphics I just want somethign to help me hone my flying skills

FMS;
it works better on my computer than realflight.

note;
after the poll results were reset, the totals seem to be a bit skewed.
example- the FMS results don't come up to the posts that favor it in this thread.
