Ok, is it possible to buy just the software for this any of the real flight programs?
If so, can I then use my DX7 for control?
thanks in advance.

Apparently not - they force you to buy unwanted hardware.
I recommend you look at
Phoenix, http://www.phoenix-sim.com/welcome.htm
Reflex or http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/
Aerofly Pro Deluxe. http://www.aerofly.de/
All of which can be purchased without a controller - you just need to select an adaptor cable suitable for your Tx
I would recommend any of them over RealFlight anyhow. Bloatware.

I know the other poster seems to have an issue with the hardware you have to buy with G4, but this comes with it. This controller is better than the last one and I don't even have to use the keyboard because the menus are built right into the controller.
I love my use a DX7 and I don't have any massive issues using the G4 controller. This is a sim right? G4 and the previous versions allow you to plug in a controller and fly with it. I do and it works, and this way the G4 controller is just an interface and your box is in control if you set it up right in the menus. Even when I fly with the DX7 or another one of my radios, I am still flying a computer generated image of an aircraft and not the real thing.
The biggest struggle I face with the DX7 is not sim integration, it is attempting to fly in this wicked cold with even the thinnest of gloves. I feel more disconnected with my DX7 doing that, than stepping outside after using the G4 controller
You may be doing something very advanced that would necessitate only using one controller, I guess I am not there yet as a park flyer using 6 channels max on some of my birds.. The layout is a little different from the DX7 and you wanted to make sure you were always reaching for the right switch, and were using all 7 channels I guess you could go with the other suggestions from the other poster.
To give it a fair shot, best thing I would do is go to the LHS where they have it set up and use it. Bring in your DX7 and let them plug it in to the demonstrator G4 unit and then you will know if you would need to look at the others. My LHS was very good about that.
It sounds like the other poster has a lot of experience in the sims that don't need the proprietary controller used in G4, but this program is not killing my hard drive so I would have to push back on the bloatware statement.
Good luck

The software copyright protection is from the proprietary controller that comes in the packaged product. They sell only the packaged product. Since the software checks for the presence of the provided proprietary controller, it is necessary to have one in order to use the software.
To use your DX7 is simple. Plug it into the provided controller, as ithe provided device functions as both a stand-alone controller or as an adapter for plugging in your own TX.

Thanks for the advise guys....I guess the only reason I ask about realfight is that is the only one I have seen.
Is there a better progam out there?
$200 is hard to swallow...but worth it in the long run I know.
Thanks in advance.

most of the others are close to that. There are a lot of planes that you can download from the knifeedge website that fly great. again, i used my DX7 as the last poster confirmed with ease, but just use the one they have and save battery charge on my DX
with the 10 degree weather here maybe I should start using the DX7 on G4 with a pair of gloves, because I lose it when I try to fly outside with them
Good luck.

I have the point of view that I do not want my good transmitter to be used as my flight sim transmitter as it introduces a higher probability of the transmitter being broken.
I have AFPD and use an old transmitter so not to put my 10x in harms way. I also have to worry about charging the "sim" transmitter and since it is older it is not very accurate and does not have many features that I am used to on my new transmitter and on the sim. The G4 transmitter works great and all I have to do is plug and play.
If you decide that G4 is too expensive, or to bloated, feel free to check out my copy of AFPD for sale here on RCU, or email me directly. If you want I will even through in the old transmitter I use!
