RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
ORIGINAL: SamMartello I am experiencing problems running V 1.04 on my Core 2 Duo 1.86 ghz pc. I have had the program cause my computer to restart on numerous occasions. It seems to happen every time I try to run any of the helos, and more than half of the planes. I have tried re-installing and still having the same problem. I am running Win XP MC edition, ATI Radeon X-1600 512 mb DDR2, and 2 gigs of ram. I have not tried running a previous version, eg 1.01 etc.. If I re-install again, I will test the stock version to see if 1.04 is the culprit. If anyone can shed some light on a solution I would greatly appreciate it. For further testing, however, try using the 1.0.3 version exe -- you can download just the exe at [link=http://www.inertiasoft.com/support.html]http://www.inertiasoft.com/support.html[/link]. Be sure to download the zip file for just the exe (these are located at the bottom of the page) and follow the directions for launching it. Let us know if the version 1.0.3 exe works for you. |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
Dear FSOneDev
I used the workshop that can be found on a subpage here http://www.rodeo.rc-sim.de to make panoramic sceneries for my own model airfield in AFPD. Some screenshots can be seen here: http://frettavefur.net/Forum/viewtopic.php?id=309&p=2 (The small Cap 232 without cowling is real, but the large one is simulated). I used 3 x 12 =36 images to make a half-spherical panorama. I really like to fly my own planes on my own airfield! Almost like being there! Now the question: Do you plan to make a similar workshop available for making sceneries for FS-One? By the way, I think flying is more realistic in FSOne than AFPD. In fact I think it is somehow too easy to spot land in AFPD. I was surprised yesterday to find my Ultra Stick 25E in FSOne complete with an electric motor! Almost like the real thing, because it is a scaled down version of Ultra Stick 120 so the four stroke is still visible, but the sound is the same as from my 32 outrunner on the nose of my Ultra Stick 25E. Also, I recommend all to to buy the version that includes the "transmitter". All programming is already done for the various models. I am using Futaba F9C for my AFPD and have to do all the mixings myself. Regards Agust |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I have a question and a comment...
First the comment. I installed FSOne on a P4-2.8GHz system with a NVidia GeForce 6800 and Win2000. Upon installation (v.1.0.1), it ran fine. Then I installed the 1.0.4 patch and it would no longer launch. When I double-clicked the FSOne icon, I'd get a DOS box for a split second and then go back to the desktop. Upon further investigation, I found that FSOne could no longer resolve color depth with the 1.0.4 patch; if my Windows desktop was set to 65000 color mode (16bpp) then FSOne would crash at launch, and if my Windows desktop was set to 16 million color mode (32bpp) then FSOne would launch without a hitch. So if you FSOne crashes after installing the 1.0.4 patch, make sure your Windows desktop is set to display 16 million colors (right-click in blank area on desktop, select 'Properties', click the 'Settings' tab in the Display Properties window, select 'Highest (32 bit)' in the dropdown menu under 'Color quality'). Now the questions... 1 - How do I get AutoZoom to work? I tried a couple of different views (F1 to F4 and within sim config), but AutoZoom doesn't seem to do anything at all. If I turn AutoZoom off, I can manually zoom in and out. But if AutoZoom is on, the zoom remains completely static and my helicopter turns into a pixel when I fly too far away. I tried a few different aircraft, but AutoZoom does the same thing (nothing) with all of them. 2 - Is ground effect for the Blade CP simulated? I noticed that I can slowly push up the throttle, and then the CP will slowly rise into the air and just keep rising... It doesn't try to wander around when lifting off like the real thing, and it doesn't hover over the 'air cushion' effect that's created when the heli is close to the ground. It's hard to describe the 'air cushion' event, but it causes the real-life CP to bob over the ground from about 6 inches to about 4 feet. After climbing over 4 feet, the CP hovers and flies under its own power and becomes more stable since it's not trying to roll off that air cushion. But the main problem I'm having is that I can't hover at a constant low altitude, whereas in real life I can set the throttle and basically stay at whatever ground-effect altitude I want. Because of that, I can't learn how to side-in and nose-in hover. 3 - Are there any flight tutorials for the helicopters? I found some tutorials for airplanes, but none for helicopters. If there aren't any flight tutorials for helicopters, then I'm really going to start feeling ripped off because that (in combination with native CP support) is one of the reasons I chose FSOne over G3. Other than that, FSOne seems to work pretty well. I think I can use it to learn forward flight, but so far I cannot use it to perform hovers at a constant altitude where I can learn how to do side-in and nose-in hovering. Thanks in advance for the info! |

I do have the latest drivers for my video card, and I tried the version 1.03 like you suggested. But alas, the same problem exists. My PC is 2 months old (HP a1640n), and I have used Microsoft Update to keep Windows current. Is there something else I am overlooking? Thanks.

Thanks in advance for the info! 2) Ground Effect -- Yes, ground effect is modeled. Which flight mode are you using? When the CP is in the 'Normal' Flight Mode, the knob is a fine control for throttle. You can use this to adjust your throttle/collective setting. When the CP is in the 'Idle Up' Flight Mode, the knob has no effect, since throttle is set to full. You may want to tweak settings to your liking, by editing the CP. From the aircraft selection menu, select 'Edit', which will take you to Scaling Wizard menu. From there, you can adjust Main Rotor parameters to tweak how the heli behaves. You can also adjust Aero, Mass, Motor, and Tail Rotor settings as well. 3) Heli Tutorials -- We will be adding heli tutorials in an upcoming patch. We're currently in the process of identifying the specific lessons, so work is underway. Do you have any particular lessons that you'd like to see included? |

RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
Thanks for the quick reply, Brian!
I've played around with FSOne for only a day, so I haven't had much time to study the zoom views and see how much they're actually zooming. But last night it seemed that autozoom wasn't happening at all... However, it's entirely possible that I was simply flying my heli so far out into the field that it was just gone, and no amount of zoom was going to put that thing back into view. That info about adjusting the settings for autozoom would be awesome, because I wouldn't mind making it a little stronger until I get used to forward flight (and learn how to fly in a circle that's less than two miles in diameter). I also read on another forum that there's a key that will let me view a closeup of my heli in another window ('I' key?), maybe I'll look at that too. I'll play around with those settings you mentioned (for fine-tuning throttle adjustments for CP heli). I didn't know that the knob would fine-adjust the throttle, so I'll definitely play around with that tonight! :) I think beginner lessons would be very beneficial, since I imagine a lot of people buy simulators after crashing their aircraft because they either think it's going to be easier than it really is or they simply don't have anybody to tutor them in the basics of flight (I'm both - d'oh!). Probably the most beneficial lessons for helis would be 'basic hovering', 'getting started in forward flight' (circles, figure 8's, etc), and 'inverted hovering'. More advanced tutorials could cover inverted flight, barrel rolls, and other cool 3D maneuvers (dunno what they're all called, but one stunt looks like a vortex or funnel). Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it! |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
To Crater Meistro and others who want to tweak their autozoom settings, here's how to do it:
1) Go to the 'Cameras' folder in the FS One installation folder. 2) Within the Cameras folder, there are two subfolders: 3D and Pano. These contain camera/viewing data, based on whether a flying site is a 3D or Pano site. 3) Within each of these folders is a Cameras.txt file. This file provides details for most of the camera views. In particular, it specifies whether autozoom is enabled for a particular view and which autozoom file is used for each view. 4) Within the 3D and Pano folders are also three autozoom files: AutoZoomFOV.tbl, AutoZoomFOV_ver2.tbl, and AutoZoomFOV_ver3.tbl. These files contain the autozoom view information. You can edit these to your desired settings. 5) Before editing these files, be sure to make a backup copy of the files, so you can easily get back to the default files, if necessary. 6) Edit the various AutoZoom files, using your favorite editor (Notepad, Textpad, etc.). 7) Within each AutoZoom file: 7a) There is a region called [StartData]. Below this are two columns of data. The first column is distance (in feet) and the second column is field of view, often called FOV (in degrees). 7b) You can edit the FOV values as desired. If you want to 'zoom in more', use a smaller FOV value. 7c) When finished editing all three autozoom files (for the 3D and Pano folders), save each file and restart FS One. You should now see the different autozoom settings. 7d) Note: You may want different zoom settings for 3D and Pano sites, due to the differences in viewing between the two flying site types. This is why we have provided the means to set cameras and views based on which flying site type is being used. |

RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
ORIGINAL: CanCanCase I've found the thread about using a 9C, but an awful lot of time is spent on channels 8 and 9... Can someone save me a bunch of reading and research and explain or point me to the setup for a 7CAP in FS One? ... I'm playing catchup -- been out of the loop since Dec 14. You have the Futaba T7CAP. That radio outputs the channel order just like the Hitec Optic 6 Tx. We have Hitec Optic 6 setups for all the airplanes in FS One. So click on that group, and then click on the Tx for the airplane you want to fly. The description then outlines the channel order that you need w/ the real Tx (i.e. things like one aileron channel or two ailerons, or elevons or not, etc). If you want to see what the keys do, then click on the Flight Manual button and look at the 6-ch emu setup. When you try this out, you'll see that the software radio will do all the work. Setup your real Tx w/ no dual rates, zero expo, no mixing, etc. You will not need to edit any of the software radios (i.e. no Tx Editor stuff involved). Again just pick the Hitec Optic 6 radio. Let me know if you this gets you going. Michael |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I just received the FSOne software. I am somewhat dissapointed. It is not in my opinion very realistic at simulating the feel of real model flying.
I have not used any other simulator so have no basis for comparison with other products, so this may be the best there is ???. I have the TacCon controller and it works OK but I think I would prefer using my own transmitter. Have not been able to get my JR 10Sx to work with FSOne software; have used the JR 8-channel template from FSone but there is no stick response. |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I am rather disapointed with this sim from Hanger 9. I thought it would be a little easier to use. I thought the graphics would be better. I thought the planes would be easier to adjust for the planes I have. I have both Realflight G2 and FSOne. Hanger 9 has always had excellent products but if I was given the option to return their product I woudl ship it to them today. I feel that this is equal to Realflight generation 1. This product has been out for almost 5 months and there has been little to no support regarding aircraft modifications, downloads, or worthwhile updates. James 1234 |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I noticed that FSOne doesn't disable the screensaver when it's running, which is really annoying when I'm inverted and suddenly puppy dogs appear all over the screen (it's my wife's computer). Using a joystick (or the TacCon controller) does not prevent the screensaver from activating like keyboard and mouse activities do, so the screensaver needs to actually be disabled while FSOne is running. It would be nice to see this problem fixed in a future patch! To disable the screensaver, add this to your Windows message pump:
Code:
case WM_SYSCOMMAND:Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to the next patch! I really want to see a Blade CP Pro as one of the helicopter models, and I'd like to see some helicopter tutorials too! |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
Brian, i spoke to Mike with Tier 1 tech support and he solved my rebooting problem. He suggested the problem was an audio issue. He told me to run DXDIAG and to reduce the audio acceleration and that ended the persistent rebooting.I will upgrade my onboard audio in order to run full acceleration again, but for now I run as is. Thanks for your assistance.

RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I gave myself a copy of FS One as an early christmas present and by and large I'm extremely happy with it. I've had none of the problems that I've read about on the forums and I think the flight physics are pretty realistic, much better then the other sims I've got experience with: RealFlight and FMS. Its clearly a work in progress, but its refreshing to see how Michael Selig and FSOneDev are responsive to posts.
I know that a new release is being worked on, and I thought I would mention a couple of new features for consideration 1) It would be nice if the program remembered my view and widget selection from session to session. I always use the same view and put up the map, compass, and vario rate-of-climb thing and drag them to where I want them on the screen. Its not a real hassle to do it everytime, but it also shouldn't be necessary. It would be acceptable (to me, at least) if the sim just remembered how the screen was set up when it was last shut down, which would probably be easier then adding a save/restore function. 2) More on-line help on transmitter editing would be real useful. It's pretty easy to set up or change expo but I've been unable to figure out how to set up aileron differential or custom mixes, and I have no idea what some of the other fields are for in the transmitter and mixing windows. 3) The popup airplane window in the transmitter section is real nice, as it lets you see how the mixes and controls work on the plane's control surfaces. How about adding the same window to the flying screen? All in all, I think this is a great program, and exeptionally stable given its complexity and maturity. Keep up the good work, and thanks a lot. -norm s |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
sIGHHHH, I too gave myself the present of FS One for Christmas, however, I am very disapointed in its inability to interface with my JR PCM 10 S radio. The calibration seems to go OK, the edit screen shows the controls moving the sliders, except for the airlerons which insist in moving in synchronization (Both up at the same time, both down at the same time ) - oh yes, the throttle moves the slider, but it will not run the engine, so the 540 sits on the runway going through endless reset, engine start, reset engine start cycles. I went onto the inertiasoft webpage to hopefully drop them a line and ask for assistance, -but darned if I can find an email address to send a question to. Maybe I just need new glasses !

For all JR radios 8 channels and up, this FAQ will cover it: http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1013-FS1 There is a 'Contact' button on the FSOne.com site, and that's what's used for questions when you want to go that route. Michael |
