would love to see more heli's added as well, maybe even a customize option for folks to modify their prop's/blades and engines would add hours of tinkering time :)

I have read thru most of this thread, but can someone give me what is good about the FS One and what is bad about it compared to the G3.

I am looking for a sim and I want to have some thoughts on it. I can see one thing that is great about this product is - Customer Support. I think that is very important when you purchase a product in this hobby.

Thanks in advance,

Manny

Manny,

One difference, out of the box, is that G3 gives you the ability to create altered versions of any airports, perhaps enough to make one look like your own favorite field. You cannot introduce your own 3d objects, but there are lots of existing ones for you to re-use.
It also lets you, to a limited degree, alter existing aircraft to customize them more so than FSone.
I will let others comment on the reality side of the comparison.

Thanks, I appreciate your comments. I believe they both very good programs and I am just trying to find the one that will suit me.

Thanks again,

Hello Michael,

I have sort of a 'geek' question that I'm not sure has been answered already. I'm anticipating getting a new PC in February. In checking the specs on FS-One, a Pentium 4 at 2.80 GHz is recommended. I have my eye on the newer Intel Core2 Duo processor, but that's only 1.86 GHz.

My question is whether the Core2 Duo chip (because of its 'slower' speed) will still be the equivalent, or better than the Pentium 4 2.80? My intended video card will easily meet the FSOne requirements.

I figure this is one question where Customer Support needs to get involved.

Also, will FS One be at the WRAM Show in February? I'd like to try before I buy. If it's as good as everyone here says, I'll be another customer.

Thanks Michael,

Bob

Michael,

It's already been said many times, but Thanks for your "exposure" here in this forum. Yer willingly stickin' yer neck out big time, to say nothing of how much it surely taxes your time, development wise. Obiviously your organization recognizes the value of feedback, and if you're developing using contemporary object-oriented software technology, realize the value such feedback has to rapid development response to customer needs and desires. Makes for an open-ended...growth oriented product.

My question, since you guys are so close to the hardware, can't you come up with a go-no-go utility we can download or pickup a CD at the dealer, and run to determine if our current configuration will run FSOne? I know there has to be many folks out there, sitting on their dollars nervously, not wanting to invest in software that won't run. After all, when you open the box and the CD package...you own it. And although there is never a 100 percent solution, wouldn't it be better for as many of your (potential) customers to know the software would run or not...confidently...when they purchased it?

And...if you guys close to the heart of the hardware do not know what we can get away with (hopefully without upgrading our computers), without this cloud of fog around the issue...who does? This is something that is good to catch and fix early in the game of developing one's reputation. You'd rather have your potential customers buy someone else's product then buy yours and not have it work for them. That IS the heart of customer service.

Thanks again for your energies here in this forum.

I've found the thread about using a 9C, but an awful lot of time is spent on channels 8 and 9... Can someone save me a bunch of reading and research and explain or point me to the setup for a 7CAP in FS One?

As an aside, the 7CAP works with zero configuration in G3.5. Reflex and Phoenix defaulted to Mode 1, but that was a simple fix... For such a polished and good-looking product, I'm a bit disappointed that FS One makes radio setup so complicated...

Thanks CanCanCase,

My potential setup is a 1.86 Core2 Duo... I realize that it's 2 processors, but it's still 1.86 GHz vs 2.80 in a Pentium 4.

I'm betting that Michael is trying to get a definitive answer right now. I would like to use the FS One full bore, without having to cut back scenery, wind, etc.

I appreciate your searching for the answer for me, Michael.

2 processors are different than 2 processor cores. The Core2Duos do run at a higher internal clock and bus speed than the Pentiums, but remember there are many other factors that will help or hurt the situation too... amount and speed of RAM, Video (GPU) capabilities, bus speed, etc...

I haven't looked for one yet, but is there an FS One demo available to test machine capabilities and readiness? This was a major selling point for several other sims back when I was near a LHS...

Compatibility should be rock solid as well...

That's what I figure, but I've learned to be cautious about making assumptions about things like that. There are always things unforseen that seem to pop up.

That's why I'm wondering if Michael has actually tested it on an actual Core2 Duo 1.86 GHz machine. He's good about getting back to us with this type of information.

I'd also like to see it in action, so I'm hoping that it'll be at the WRAM show, which will be about the time I'm expecting my PC, too!

I hope everyone gets what they want for Christmas, and then a little bit more.

Case - I don't have specific info about using your 7CAP, but were you aware that in addition to information on the FS One site (http://www.fsone.com/), we have additional info and support FAQs at the InertiaSoft site in the support section? Sometimes the extra info is all it takes to help clarify the solution to a problem.

For example, we do include an example of using the [link=http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/index.html#Q1028-FS1]T9CAP[/link]. The InertiaSoft FAQs include examples for using a range of various transmitters as well as a range of other support topics. Have you reviewed these?

Let us know if you still need help.

I wonder if you would have a minute to address my questions from post 524 regarding the new Intel Core2 Duo processor?

Thanks,

I would if I could. The fact is that we are getting several new computers for development and testing in the next week or two, including at least one Intel Core2 Duo machine. Once we can perform a range of tests to be sure of full compatibility, we'll let everyone know. We expect everything should be fine, but we can't say so officially, at this point -- we need to test. So, sorry for the delay, but you'll have to hang in there for a bit longer.

The core 2 1.86 is much much faster than the Pentium D 2.8ghz. This will not be an issue. I am running FSOne on 2 machines. One is a Intel Centrino running a 2.1 ghz (faster than P D2.8) and a Core 2 extreme 2.93 ghz. Both machines are considerably faster than the minimum requirements for FS One. The core 2 is a great chip....I would consider spending a few dollars more and the Core 2 with 2.4ghz...it comes with a larger L2 cache and which makes it a good bit faster. I think you will find the small upgrade in price worth the peformance.

FSOneDev-

Thanks... nothing in the packaging or user manual (AHEM!) references InertiaSoft at all... I'll dig around there and see if I can find anything over the holidays.

None the less, the article I did find at FSOne.com relating to the 9C spent a great deal of time assigning things to channels 8 and 9 and to switches my 7C doesn't even have. I'm really just a bit astounded that such a polished and good looking product doesn't have more in-depth "official" support... it's all being run through "un-official" channels like these forums. Only hardcore RC fanatics or computer geeks (yes, I'm both!) are likely to spend much time digging around in here. I doubt the average gamer would know where to go on Christmas morning to get their new toy up and running.

I have some problem when I try to install the v1.04 patch by running FS_One_v1_0_4.exe.
I always get this message:

"This application has failed to start because DSETUP.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem". See image.
(I have not yet re-installed the application as suggested by the error message).

I installed the 1.03 patch without problems.

I am using IBM Thinkpad T41p with 1.5Gb RAM and an external 19" Think Vision LCD monitor. Works great, except this problem with the 1.04 patch. I am using the FS-One "transmitter".

Which version of DirectX are you using? We have received a few reports of problems with the 1.0.4 patch, although we didn't encounter a single problem with our suite of test computers (so we are unable to diagnose what might be going wrong for some people).

DSETUP.dll should be located in the base folder of FS One. It appears that perhaps your DSETUP.dll file may be missing.

Does everything still work fine when using version 1.0.3?

I am using DirectX 9.0c

Dsetup.dll is indeed in the base folder of FS One. It is 62 kb and dated 3 sept 2006 05:19

I think all is working fine with version 1.0.3.

Agust -- You may want to try to download the patch again and reinstall the 1.0.4 patch. If that doesn't work for you, let us know. You still still be able to run the 1.0.3 version. As I mentioned, we've had a few reports of 1.0.4 not working for some users, while 1.0.3 worked for them. We'll investigate this further.

I am experiencing problems running V 1.04 on my Core 2 Duo 1.86 ghz pc. I have had the program cause my computer to restart on numerous occasions. It seems to happen every time I try to run any of the helos, and more than half of the planes. I have tried re-installing and still having the same problem. I am running Win XP MC edition, ATI Radeon X-1600 512 mb DDR2, and 2 gigs of ram. I have not tried running a previous version, eg 1.01 etc.. If I re-install again, I will test the stock version to see if 1.04 is the culprit. If anyone can shed some light on a solution I would greatly appreciate it.
