RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Kurt,
Does turning down any of the graphics detail sliders change the FPS? That ATI card is on par with a GF7600GT so you should be smokin... Is the wind on? Are any of the other onscreen devices on? (compass, map, overlay etc...) Resolution and monitor sound fine. Anything running in the background that could be taking cycles? Even a bargain basement video card can do 10fps so I'm intrigued... Hey Alberto (Quinoa),
If you describe your computer the people here will tell you if it will work with the program or, better, if it will not work. (CPU, RAM, operating system, graphics card, audio driver that's all). To me, the 2 patches that I needed to load were pretty easy and no big deal. ciao, Dave |

Could someone explain the difference between the term software radio, hardware radio and real radio. And possibly a link to how each is used and why.
Thanks in advance |
RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Ken,
I turned down a few sliders before the memory upgrade and didn't get any improvement so I put them all back at max. There is no wind and there are no other overlays turned on. The computer is running Zone Alarm firewall and Macafee anti-virus but I also tried it with those shut down. Before the memory upgrade I went into msconfig and tried to find any nonessential items in the startup and deactivate them but that didn't have an effect either. I'll play around with some more with the detail sliders other things and see what happens. However, I think that with the smokin video card and the 1.5 gigs of ram that it should flow smooth as glass with all the sliders set to max. I'm intrigued as well! RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Well I've nearly forgotten all the things I tried before I finally hit on the problem with mine. I thought it was because I was using a Celeron but I'm not so sure that was the issue because there here are others here using Celerons and they work fine. I eventually determined that there was something wrong with the original installation and so I removed, rebooted and re-installed FSone again. Not too bad for me as it only took 35minutes which is on par with any graphics intensive game of today (don't know why people complain about this). After this I seemed to move forward but I can't remember why. Check video or hardware acceleration in the control panels for the card. Look for anything that could be set for dismal perfomance. Do you use any other games that you can test to see if it effects them too?

RE: FS One by Hangar 9
ORIGINAL: KurtS I just purchased FSOne and am getting dismal frame rates of only 10 to 13. I have a P4 2.4, 512mb ram, and a new ATI Radeon X 1650 Pro 512mb video card. I know I'm in the middle of the recommended CPU speed and at the bottom of the Ram size but am not sure where to start. More memory? Faster processor? Kurt A slow FSB can noticably impact high performance aircraft, which require more compute power, due to more complex aerodynamics. Also, complex graphics models, such as the TOC Ultimate require more CPU and graphics power (you should have plenty of graphics power, but CPU power comes into play here too). We have run FS One at good speeds 30-60 Hz on a laptop with an old Radeon 9200 and only 512 MB RAM, so your Radeon X 1650 should offer blazing speed. Do you have the latest graphics drivers? If not, get new drivers. I have seen graphics drivers double the speed without changing the application code. You mention that you had 512 MB and then upped to 1.5 GB. This is fine, but if your FSB is slow, that extra memory will offer comparitively little speed increase. The bottom line here, however, is that you should be getting higher speeds -- since you are not, there is some configuration issue that needs to be corrected. Also, you mentioned what to do to get more speed -- I recommend a faster CPU and FSB. Sorry to say that, since that likely means a new motherboard as well, but the fact is that FS One aerodynamics are quite complex and this means that CPU speed is a definite factor in determining overall speed. Two questions: 1) What sort of frame rate do you get if you run the Alpha 40 at a Pano site? 2) What sort of frame rate do you get if you run the Vigor (helicopter) at a Pano site? |

ORIGINAL: rally tuned Hey people, have been playing with FSOne for a little bit and have had a few problems. When using a hobbyzone or parkzone plane and the only chopper ive tried in free flight mode my entire computer crashes shortly after take off. however if i use these planes in one of the games it works fine. I havnt adjusted any settings in the planes or that. Tried dialing the graphics right down and it still crashes. I have dialled the graphics right up while using other planes like the hanger 9 edge 540 and apart from being a bit slow still runs mint. Have all current patches installed and still the same problem. With the stuff that works its awsome! Any help would be greatly apprecieated System crashes are most typically caused by graphics or sound drivers, not applications. What are your system specs? Operating system, brand of PC, CPU speed, memory, graphics card, sound card, etc. |
RE: FS One by Hangar 9
ORIGINAL: FSOneDev Wow, this is a tough one. As you've probably guessed, it doesn't make sense that the aircraft will work when playing a game, but not work when flying Freestyle. You're saying that if you fly the Aerobird in Pylon Racing, it flys fine, but when flying Freestyle it causes a crash? System crashes are most typically caused by graphics or sound drivers, not applications. What are your system specs? Operating system, brand of PC, CPU speed, memory, graphics card, sound card, etc. will get specs when i go back to work as its on the work comp |
RE: FS One by Hangar 9
any luck on the sound issue some of us are having when loading 1.5?
Pent 4 Windows XP SP2 2.66 GHZ 1.5 GB Ram Nvidia GE Force 6600 Legacy Audio Drivers Creative SB Live Flying the scaled down P-51 65" with EVO 40 engine chosen and at RPM engine range starting at 2000, only other adjustment was a dry weight of 7.75 lbs. Just tried the trainer, same issues and rescaled the P-51 to sets sounds again under the edit aircraft settings, same results. Another observation which may help. The sound will vary with the throttle, however when you bring the throttle to idle, the sounds mutes itself to a lower than normal level. You can still hear the sounds, but it's muted a few levels lower than just before when you were in flight. Additionally the sound still will not vary on speed passes or with distance changes. That's all I can find, and like I stated it happened right after I loaded 1.5. The sound varied with distance like it should with 1.4. Hope you can resolve and thanks for the quick response on RCU. I just performed a system retore for a few days back to remove the 1.0.5 patch and the sound is back to normal. |

ORIGINAL: Abaco24 any luck on the sound issue some of us are having when loading 1.5? Your feedback and details are helpful and we're still looking into this, but unfortuately, it's very difficult to solve when we cannot reproduce it. Have you tried getting updated sound drivers? We have seen users that update their Creative SB drivers often improve their sound compatibility. Also, does this happen for all aircraft, or just the P51? BTW -- We have posted the previous exe's on the InertiaSoft website, so if you patch to 1.0.5 and then want to go back to 1.0.4, you can download the 1.0.4 exe and still get some of the other misc files improvements of 1.0.5 while using the 1.0.4 exe without having to perform a system restore. |
RE: FS One by Hangar 9
I am also still having the same sound issues on 1.0.5. When you fly away, the sound stays constant until you take the throttle to idle and then the sound is at a lower volume like it should be when it is flying away from you. But there is no gradual decrease and if you don't drop the throttle, the sound will stay at the same loud volume no matter how far away you fly. You guys at FSOne have definitely changed something regarding the sound on the 1.0.5 patch. The problem occurs on every plane I've tried so far. I have gone back to 1.0.4 until the problem is solved.

RE: FS One by Hangar 9
skorman, preich, and Abaco24 -- I have put a version 1.0.5a (special version) on the InertiaSoft website that may correct your sound problem. Since I cannot duplicate the problem you are having, you'll need to let me know if this special version fixes your problem.
To do this, you need to first patch to 1.0.5 (to be sure to have the other related files) and then download the FS_One_v1_0_5_2exe.zip file. Unzip the file and copy the exe file to your FS One installation folder. Then double click on the FS_One_v1_0_5_2.exe file to launch this special version. If this does not fix your sound problem, there is no need to do a Windows system restore, simply download the FS_One_v1_0_4exe.zip file and run it the same way. This will save the need to do a system restore. Let me know if this helps. |
RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Brian - 1.0.5a doesn't fix the problem. Sound still remains at a constant level unless the throttle is brought to idle. Then the sound becomes what it should be for the given distance the plane is from the pilot. For example, if you fly around at one throttle setting sound remains constant no matter where you fly. If you constantly goose the throttle from full to idle, you will hear the engine volume change with distance from the pilot. No volume change occurs unless you return the throttle to idle.

RE: FS One by Hangar 9
All aircraft, I'll try to see if there are any updates for the sound drivers.

RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Good news: We're still in the final testing mode, but we think we've solved the sound problems that people have reported previously. This is a true fix and doesn't require having to reduce your sound acceleration.
Skorman, Preich, and Abaco24 -- This fix will likely also correct the problem you are having. The sound fix is in testing and will be released soon. More details soon... |

I was wondering if there will be any additional airplanes available soon I would really like to see Mike McConvilles 40% Extra 260 ;) And please let them be free so we dont have to buy add ons thats on of the reasons i didn't get G3.
Thanks |

RE: FS One by Hangar 9
Thought I would post the results of a recent hardware upgrade. I started out running FSOne on a homebuilt box with an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ CPU, 256MB RAM, and a Radeon 9600SE graphics card with 128MB RAM. The sim installed fine under Windows XP. I am using a 19"CRT, by the way. Anyway, with resolution set to 1024x768, I was getting about 30FPS with the 33% Edge at Pano fields and mid-20's at 3D fields. The sim was still great fun, but trying to fly the biplanes (either electric or gas) was not too satisfying, with jerkiness in the motion. However, flying the Tribute indoors worked great. Anyway, I embarked on a poor boy's upgrade: bought an AMD Athon XP 3200+ chip on Ebay, 2 gig of RAM and a 7600GT card with 256MB (AGP) from Newegg. FSB speed is 333 MHz. After this upgrade, the difference was amazing. I am pushing 100 FPS at my original resolution with the Edge and 80FPS at 1600x1200 with the Ultimate. No jerkiness at all with either bipe. So, restating what I think is already common knowledge, good hardware makes all the difference.

Any other suggestions FSOne guys?
Im still crashing my computer when I try to run training or certain aircraft. To recap, I have a Pentium 4 3 ghz, 800 FSB, 2mb cache, 1 gig ram, a 256mb ati 9800xt, asus motherboard, and a chaintech av710 sound card. All my drivers are up to date, BIOS is up to date, etc. I dont have any difficulty with any other programs. Im running windows XP. FPS is still low around 20-30 lately. This could be the latest ati driver versus a custom driver I had earlier ( I was getting near 50 FPS IIRC). THanks |

Hi
To repaint aircraft in FS One is very easy... I scaled the 120 stick to a 40 sized version, and took a couple of pictures. After very little cutting and pasting, this is what the end result looks like. |
