There are several brands of 2 cycle motor oil here in North Louisiana but not Klotz. I know I can order Klotz but is there any over the counter brands that will work as a mix? I want to use it for a Moki 180 and I have some 15% 4-cycle fule that I would like to cut down to 5%. I have Methonal and some castor oil so I was thinking of adding some 2-cycle oil to come back to the 20% oil target.

No, you can't add regular 2-cycle oil to glow fuel, it won't mix with the methanol. Read "RC fuel faq" in this forum. Also, I buy Klotz at a local motorcycle shop, and it is also usually available at speed shops.

It appears that the only commercially available oil that will mix with Methanol is Klotz. Their beanoil is excellent. We run Moki 2.1 and 1.8 engines with the following mixture. One gallon of 10% nitro (commercially available fuel) is mixed with one gallon of straight methanol. The result is 5% nitro and half the oil mixture. Most commercially mixed fuels have about 18% oil, so this results in a 9% mix. Our Moki engines love it. Another alternative is to mix Methanol with Klotz with no nitro. At $8 per quart for Klotz, when you mix with Methanol, the cost per gallon is pretty cheap.

Thanks for the response South Louisiana. Up here in North Louisiana methanol is around but hard to get in gallon form. Turns out Coopers Custom Blend fuels put out a Moki mix. Our local club orders from him twice a year. I talked with Brian Cooper and he said in his area what the Moki users like is either the 12 or 15 % mix with 0 to 3 % nitro. I have never run a Moki so this is all new to me. I ordered a case of 15% no nitro fuel. After I have some time on the motor I will try some of my own custom blends. I use Cool Power for my 4 stroke so I do have something to mix it with.

hallo!
Why bother with Klotz oil when you could get racing oil from the French Motul company( there must be a Motul retailer in the USA).
Motul makes racing oil for motorcycles and cars, they also make an oil specially for glowengines, this is called "Micro"!
Many flyers all around Europe uses this oil and so do I.
15% oil is what Motul recommends!!!!!!! I have used it for two years and in both fourstrokes and in small and big twostrokes ( Cox 0.049 - MVVS 1.50) with great satisfaction . It does not produce any carbon inside the engine and throttle respons improves.
I was I great advocate of castor oil for more than 25 years ,but since I tried the Motul "Micro oil" all syntetic oil two years ago I´m hooked..........

Not quite true about the Klotz oils. Klotz will not undercut its distributors and therefore, you can buy it from many other places cheaper than from Klotz direct. Paid about $5.50 a quart a few months ago. 30 and 55 gallons are about $16 a gallon from Klotz distributors nearby to my place. CasChem can supply a good model fuel castor, the old, venerable Bakers AA from NJ is still available from Atlanta (CasChem) and other places for about $12-$14 a gallon, plus shipping. VP Racing sells 99.9% methanol for about $2.35 a gallon in 55 gallon barrels and $2.85 a gallon in 30 gallon barrels plus the barrel and shipping. [B] VP racing also sells nitromethane in 5 gallon, 30 gallon and 55 gallon quantities at a reasonable price. IF you can find a nearby city supplier, you can pick it up and pay NO HAZMAT shipping and no regular shipping. A barrel is relatively inexpensive and you can usually refill your own barrel at VP Racing and similar supplier. For most folks, I would advise one of the following three: 1. Find out what your engine needs and buy that fuel. 2. Find out a fuel close to that and add a little castor, synthetic, nitro or methanol as needed. 3. Or, you can mix your own. Any one of these is fine. If you tend to fuel your lawnmower near the pilot light on your gas water heater in the garage, then I recommend 1. or 2. What I find is generally the most difficult is finding good, reliable, inexpensive suppliers and second, having a good formulation for your engine. The rest is not rocket science.

Klotz is not the only name in town. Red Line oil also makes a synthetic lubricant which mixes with methanol. If you go to the local speed shops they will know the lube that mixes with methanol , since they use it all the time in their alcohol racing fuels. Might even be able to buy nitromethane from them.
