Default Fuel Container Question

Ok Folks,

I've got a question about fuel containers. I just bought a nifty
new toolbox that I'm going to make into a self-contained field
box. In the bottom I want to install a fuel container, battery
and all associated items. Trouble is..........that the fuel containers
that our fuel comes in are too tall......I only have 8" including the
fitting for installation. I bought a regular 1 gallon fuel (gas) can from
Lowe's today, but then got to worrying if our fuel (regular glow fuel) would
cause problems with the container or get contaminated. My thinking
was you could put glow fuel in a gas container but not gas in a glow fuel
container..............geeze..........do you ever have to stop learning
in this hobby. Anyway..........am I OK with a polyureathane (or whatever they
are) container or am I asking for trouble.

Thanks in advance for any and all help........I want to get started on this
project and this is the biggest concern right now.

I would say you'd be fine, methanol isn't usually as bad as petrol when it comes to damaging plastics.

Stay away from the clear brittle plastics (PET) variety. For some reason, they can cause problems with the fuel. Try to stick with something that is for flammable liquids, any gasoline container should suffice. High density polyethelene (sp?) or HDPE is just fine.
Insure the caps or seals will give you a 100% airtight seal, I have gasoline cans that do not seal very well and leak when tipped over regardless of how tight the caps were.

Some of my friends use quart plastic containers which once contined motor oil.

Standard gasoline jugs are polyethylene and should be no problem with glow fuel. (Glow fuel jugs are also polyethylene). Be careful about using silicone sealant for fittings as this may react with the fuel. Also, make sure that any rubber seals on the can will hold up to the fuel (may be a rubber o-ring on the cap). Normal rubber doesn't like methanol.

Great Planes sell a 1/2 gallon square bottle for around $5.00 I have a small box as well it works great. If I need to take two types to the club I use the Quart jug that the Koltz oil comes in it can lay fat and as long as the top is tight, works for me.

Two Dubro 40oz tanks in series is what I used in my flight box (ok converted heavy plastic tool box). Works great and is low profile. Can take a pic if you'd like.
