Official HPI website release Of 5B SS KIT What do you think!!
Well HPI has officially released the new 5B SS Kit on their website. Looks really nice.
Do you think or would you buy the RTR and do the hop ups yourself.

I don't think the price will be that at retail outlets.
If it is then good luck getting people to pluck down that kind on money.

Quite, it's a short list of upgrades...
Thicker shock shafts,
2 rear dogbones
Metal diff case
Bigger engine and pipe
Sway bars (who needs em)
8000rpm clutch (don't want it)
Metal gear kit for servo (what's that, 10 bucks?)
Shocks (nothing wrong with the old ones, that's reaching a bit).
I could have an SS tomorrow by simply adding the parts I want to my car, except for the engine, it would all be about $150 (I already have a pipe). I don't want the shocks, clutch, or sway bars, and I'll change the servo for a digi4 at some point anyway, and the engine for a Zenoah. They should put some carbon fibre on it to justify that price (yeh I know it's only RRP, but it's still quite a difference from the RTR RRP).
Now I'm glad I went for the RTR to be honest.
For a first time Baja owner, yeh it's great, if it's the nine hundred and something Tower were quoting. The radio is only worth 50 bucks anyway, so they might as well have chucked it in for a laugh.

The SS will be cheaper then the rtr when it makes it to the shelves.
And I dont think you can upgrade the rtr for 150 bucks... if this is posible show me how.

The swaybars are very usefull when driving onroad, and the new shocks are a most awaited upgrade. The old shockshafts bend very easily, and the shocks leak like there is no tomorrow!
The 8000 rpm clutch i have on my Baja, that makes it possible to launch hard, even with the not so powerfull engine.

* KIT VERSION
hahahaha You have to build it first before running it.
thats' great if you have a ton of hopups you are slapping on it right from the start... bad if you just want to run it "as is".
Really a shame they didn't add a metal pullstart ring to it from the factory

It's definitely a great alternative to the RTR for a first time Baja buyer. I may pick one up since I dont have a Baja and miss mine lol, but otherwise current Baja owners can just hop that stuff up, and many already have. The biggest upgrades seem to be the engine and pipe, which tons of Baja owners hop up themselves.

I sure won't waste my cash on a ss...I have most those upgrades or better anyhow so why bother. I don't bend shock shafts, haven't bent one yet and launch the hell outta my baja's and my shocks don't leak either, seems most the leaks are caused by using the wrong shock oil or tearing gaskets when putting them back together and I sure don't want no wimpy 26cc engine, no sense going smaller I already run 29cc'rs and those will be 30.5's over the winter....i like the metal diff case though....but it'll be available anyhow or ya can just buy a turtle racing one now

Once again though, great for a first time baja owner, but if you have the RTR, it's nothing to dance int he streets about if you ask me.
Also, like I said above, it's not meant to be an RTR, but all they needed to include to make it BTR (new acronym; Build To Run ) was $50 worth of radio and throttle servo. They might as well have thrown them in. I can't see why anyone who owns an RTR would buy an SS, there's just not 'enough' to make it worthwhile, unless they have a spare radio and throttle servo and are after another Baja for some reason. Jus' my opinion.

It's not an RTR, it has no radio and only one servo, plus it requires full assembly. Like I say above with only one servo and a radio , you could call it a BTR (Build to run).

You DO have to put it together. But I see what you're saying, better without engine and any servos, I agree.

foxy I see what your saying now and agree. If you allready have a rtr, you can upgrade it cheap enough with buying the few parts.
I like the kit idea, when I first started in rc's there were no rtr's. You had to build it your self, the advantage to this is you knew how everything went together. So if your looking at the baja the SS is the way to go! The stock radio is not worth even throwing in with the rtr in my opinion. Mine lasted only till I could scrap it, it is worth while finding a 2.4ghz radio no glitching is a very good thing with these beasts.

Is really a shame that it called KIT. I like KITs very much. I want the fun of the assembly!!! But, you are right for the RTR and KIT matter. It's a KIT. That it means>>no radio, no servos and NO engine(...and exhaust). If thesae things been taken out of the "KIT", that means that the Baja SS would be at about 1000$...right?
However, i'm not buying that <edited> which is pronounced as a "KIT". Shame of HPI[:@]
On the other hand, i will buy my RTR BAJA 5B at December and nobody stops me
