Well not to bad a day here in clod hopper land...About 40* degrees for out door temp....Took the firehammer out for a short run
this morning...All was going good for about 15 to 20 minutes......High revs when stopped the firehammer and kept wanting to crawl.....
I am pretty sure know the problem......Broke another.. red clutch spring...[:@]Now that's the third spring I have broken.....I am thinking there
crap....I remember some one posted a while back about a premium spring..from DDM for the zenoah engine..think like $11.00 for spring
and it engaged approx 7,500 RPM..That's what I am going to try next...I looked at the 2 springs..there is a difference on the ends..for hook up
the premium spring has the hooked ends turned opposite each other...the red spring are in the same direction....Got to be worth a try....
Hell stock spring is only 6,000 Rpm engagement...................All replies Welcome..........AKA Slawhammer

The only spring I ever broke was the stock one on my Firehammer MT. I have the DDM spring in my Firehammer MT and it works great and I have also used the HPI red spring with no problems. The issues I have had with the stock clutches were wearing out the pads. I now use Elcon’s adjustable clutches in all but one of my cars and I can tell you I will never go back to the stock clutches again. I know they are not cheap, but in the long run it is a wise investment and I highly recommend getting one if you can.[link]http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.1611/.f[/link]

Mbe301DM spring is next..in my openion the hpi baja red spring is junk...I will never again use one..you can't even give me one...It's like
baseball..3 strikes you'r out...never to be again..had 3 chance's....So Mbe did ya get the 813 carb to work for ya?

Moonman: I hear ya..loud and clear...I got 2 springs coming over nite express..be here in the morning.....

pwaicon:: yup got too agree with ya on the clutch..that is a good one... Have to wait on getting one for the time being..
But I am sure I will this up coming year...I have a second set of clutch shoes at this time...so will have a spring for them also..
More important is the engine right now...to rebuild or go new...At present time the CY29CC is running ok...I just don't like the
spark plug color.....I need to get the lite brown color......Thanks guys for your replies....All replies welcome...AKA Slawhammer

Ended up not switching. All of my bottem end lag was due to the weak clutch spring, after I put the DDM spring in, it was night and day difference.

I would sugest getting this for it also.. The stock plate cracks this one wont. Ive been running with this set-up in my Baja for 6 or 8 months now.

Here is my cracked plate. The clutch its self is not a problem just the front plate.

Another cold snowy day here in clod hopper land...Looks like maybe winter is starting to set in....So with that I have been toying with the
idea of doing some engine work..porting and clean up of the casting....I have done this years back in motorcycle days on 2 stroke....
I do not intend to take away any thing from the guys that do this for a living..And I really do not want to know any trade secrets..Hell I am 64 years old..and this is for my personal use only...
I have done some porting and change timing with nitro engines.........So maybe some guidence here and there would be nice is all....I know that savage jim did some engine work in nitro world..But not sure if he does with gas engines....I am planning to rebuild the firehammer engine CY29CC...Going with dark soul top end..so the bottom lower case's are what I am looking at
for clean up work..to take off metal and to smooth and polish..Little on intake as well as exhaust...These are my thoughts today....All Replies Welcome.....AKA Slawhammer

Nice day here in clod hopper land...Had firehammer out for a good run....Seems to be excessive smoke form exhaust...Using 25:1 mix.. I richen up the high side for being colder out
for weather...As some of you have read or not read I have a CY29cc billet head engine..Not sure on the crank..Being stuffed or not..Engine came this way when bought.....
I know I can buy a piston ring and rering it..In doing that.. not sure if have to crosshatch the cylinder..to get any glaze off the walls....Thought about just going
the dark soul marine head and cooling head like suggested by RCU Member..TeamChrome....I have read lot of different problems with the CY29cc Engine..
Maybe go with the G260 Engine..I know 4 bolt is much better for less blowing head gaskets...Any suggestions on this for rebuild or just get a different engine?
All Replies Welcome..AKA Slawhammer

Ok Here we are back in clod hopper land..snowed all day ..about 3" on ground..good time to be addressing the firehammer...
There are many things I would like to get done......Many hours of thought on the engine deal.....It runs fine ..no leaks of any kind..
Just the spark plug color won't come around to lite brown color....I am pretty sure of going with the Dark Soul water head and the alloy cooling head...
And a new look for 2009..Body to be Beetle Shell,,not sure of color as of yet...new alloy front end....With hopes of maybe hydro brakes....
With all that has been done...This would be one hell of a firehammer..All redone over....
Teamchrome...Many thanks to you my friend..And there are lots of other prople:Hellya,Lars,CSP1971,Mooman Kengen,,,the list goes on and on
Thank all you wonderful people for the support you have given me and this firehammer.....All Replies Welcome....AKA Slawhammer

Roger, Here is that 1/7 XTM nitro body i got.
Simple rattle can paint job but it will have some nice decals to make up for it.
Not bad for being not copletely trimmed.
Looks pretty good on the Baja as well...

OK, The cutting is done and mounting holes made.. Still need some edges sanded.
I think Ill order another one and cut it so the sides are longer so it covers more at the bottom, and position it so the nose goes over the front more.
For $40!! its a pretty cool body.

I see that roll cage support is different than what I have...Did you cut down that Red body from a truck body? To give
it that buggy style look? The spike tires are neat...I made some years back with screws on the inside of tire...Heads inside
pointed end coming out thru thread..worked your real well for traction on ice....If I don't talk to ya before Turkey Day ..have a good one
