RE: powder coat
lol wan lol , powder coating isnt easy for the home handyman unless your a home handyman with a factory , powder coating alloy you need the special sprayguns and baking ovens , the powder coat goes on dry and looks like a matte finish then goes in the oven to bake , the baking melts the powder coat and thats how it makes it tough and shiny .
Chroming alloy involves hardcasing the alloy part first in brass and then dipping it in chrome , if ya dont do that first the chrome will melt the alloy
and somewhere in your sentence i think you mean annodising lol . powdercoating and chroming is two completely differnt things .

Indeed, powder-coating, chroming, and anodizing are 3 totally different processes.
The answer to your question, is 'no', it is not easy to do it yourself, any of these things, it takes money and some learning.

RE: powder coat
It's not that it can Not be done. It sure can. You would need a powdercoating gun. The correct color of coating. The process involves charging the metal parts so the powder sticks to it. Then these parts need to baked in an oven to melt the coating. As splcrazy described already.
If you had all of these things it could be done. I would say it's definitely not an easy process for the average guy though.

RE: powder coat
Powder coating is NOT that difficult, but you have to spend some money and time at it. Look at Eastwood for a good starter, go to a second hand store and get a stove as cheap as possible.
They key to good powder is CLEAN. Clean parts, clean DRY air. Dry AIR is very important. After that, practice is important.

RE: powder coat
they sell kits for about $200 that comes with everything you need except the oven or a toaster oven...and assorted colors
Powder Coating is applied by spraying powder onto a part, then heating it to fuse the powder onto the part.
An electrical charge is used to attract the powder onto the part.
