once we got it back opened the gear cover and all the teath where melted of the spur :O

RE: baja spur
Integy also makes metal spur and pinion gears. There isn't a huge variety, but I think they have 56, 57, and 58 tooth spurs and 16, 17, and 18 tooth pinions. I've used a set and they seem decent enough, especially for the price. You're looking at about $50 for a pinion spur set (you buy them separately) vs about $84 for a Robinson Racing gear set. I haven't stressed them too much, but they've held up fine thus far. Also, DDM is now making there own gear sets, which is news to me. I bought a set the other week. The gears are pretty meaty, and very affordable (in comparison to the Robinson gears). A set will run you about $60 or so.

I'm not sure exactly which nut you're referring to. If you have your baja manual handy, you could maybe refer me to a specific page and describe it from there, and I might be able to help. I can't make any promises on that though.

RE: baja spur
I'm not sure what advice I can give you on this. If the nut is spinning freely, I guess I would try and jam something in by the nut (like a screw driver or something) to keep the nut from rotating so that you can get the bolt out of there, and then I would make sure I replace that plastic part so you don't have to worry about it again. Otherwise you might be able to just cut the plastic with a dremel or something.

RE: baja spur
You "need it," like you're missing it? Or is there an issue with it? I suppose if you're missing the bushing that might be why the brakes are loose enough to come off the pin.

RE: baja spur
Where were you guys running the Baja?
Make sure you didn't get the gear case full of sand or small gravel.
That will tear up the gears fast also.
Make sure you have some clearance between the gears the spur and pinion.
The drive train will be a bit stiff when new but once it's been run it should spin freely

RE: baja spur
Didnt read all the posts, so I dont know if anyone has mentioned this product. The Hostile Spur gear, its a helluva lot stronger than the stock plastic unit, wont destroy your pinion like metal ones can and only costs 10bucks. Ive only had to purchase one.....
