need help wiring car (derbyguy78)
hello fellow members, i recently started my first large scale build(you can see it under new member first build in the rc giant scale car forum) anyway i need some serious help w/ my wiring please .i just got my new steering servo(servo 1)on diagram with it is a y harness. i plan on getting a bigger battery for it (sanyo 1200 mah) servo2 (on diagram) will be my throttle/kill switch servo. anyhow,i really need help putting this puzzle together. the receiver is a futaba r168df that came with the wiring harness w/switch. it kind of aggravates me that i bought the entire futaba kit and the book has no info on my receiver aaarrrggghhh[:@] thanx in advance for any help guys....please ask questions if i forgot any necessary info.
ps on my receiver harness: the 3 plugs: 1 is female and male , the other side is male

From Tower site
Like this
Universal Y-Harness: Because This Servo has a High Current Drain, the
Y-Harness is Used to Plug the Servo Into the Receiver and Also to
Wire Directly to the Battery Pack for A Power Sorce. This is Done
so the High Current Does Not Damage the Receiver. It is Up To The
Modeler to Hook Up the Power Supply Wire to the Battery.
Diagram-> (male end) Servo-\>Receiver (female end)

RE: need help wiring car (derbyguy78)
does each of the plugs on the Y harness have 3 wires in it???
if so then its used to run 2 servos from one channel..... not 1 servo direct to batt... thats another type of harness......
but that type of harness (2servos-one channel) can be adapted to suit your needs
or does one plug have 1 wire in it one plug have to wires and one plug have 3 wires???

Hey Derby
3 wire on each end of the y harness i have no clue then unless it is for running 2 servos from 1 channel, but again not sure.
From the part numbers you gave you should have 2 y-harness setups.
1 came with the radio and has the switch in it-extra plug is for charging the reciever battery.
The 2nd came with the servo so it does not get its high current power across the reciever as that could damage the reciver.
On tower site for that it comes with a y harness for charging the reciever battery. Does the y harness have a switch in it?
There is a radio forum on here the info might on there .[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_52/tt.htm]Radio Forum[/link]

You don't need the "y" harness if you are using a Non B.E.C. reciever. Only use it if you a using a 2 channel B'E.C. reciever. The reciever your using isn't BEC so you don't need it. Plug the servo in and use it the normal way.

hello rcguru,i received my new ts-80 servo and the box says that it recommends atleast 1200mah ,so i just got off the phone w/ tower hobbies where i ordered a 2000 mah battery. my question: the battery is a nimh (and the charger i was forced to get) is there any problems with using a nicd in my transmitter and the nimh in my receiver?again,i am new at all of this so dont laugh too hard

I don't buy battery packs for recievers. It's cheaper to make your own. I use 5000 mah NIMH. $15. No problems but NIMH is better. I only use one brand charger to charge all my batteries. A TEKIN 112C.It can handle NICAD and NIMH 1-12 cells AC/DC. I have 3.

I'm still waiting for parts for my first build but have gathered that many bits and pieces in the meantime that I could build another 2 (unconventional) cars from it all.
Minus the electronics.
But still.
