Hurrax Pyrad Build
I decided to pick up a Hurrax Pyrad at the urging of some fellow RC enthusiast, they shall remain nameless as my wife is looking for them as I type this. I have read some negative things about Hurrax so I decided to find out for myself if the Hurrax is all show and no go. I have to say the quality looks good, I like the layout of the drivetrain and they make some nice looking bodies. Unfortunately they come assembled so I needed to do a complete strip down so I can have the enjoyment of putting it back together. For me building it is half the fun. Well here are some pics to start thing off and I will post more as I start putting it back together.

Let me see, both their user names start with an M. So far I am liking it, but like any RC the true test will come when its time to get it dirty.

Badboy2,
Parts are going to be an issue as there is no US Distributor at the moment so once I find out if it's a keeper then I will order some more spares all at once. Hobbythek sells the Hurrax: [link]http://www.rc-car-online-shop.de/lshop,showrub,12499,e,1283091306-12961,autos.hurrax,,,,.htm[/link]
Sheograth,
Not quite sure on the paint scheme yet, I am leaning towards a Monster Energy theme though. Coming up with a theme is always difficult for me, I always get nervous as I hate messing up a $100+ body.[:@]
Nutech Racing,
Yep, the tires are almost identical to the TB2 tires and the TB2 tires are a great tire so at least I know the tires should preform well.

RE: Hurrax Pyrad Build
Well I had a chance to work on it today, so far so good. I am really liking the diff design, it appears strong, has roller bearing to support the output shafts, it's sealed so you can use diff oil, and you can change the drive cups without having to disassemble the diff. Also if you loose a dogbone or break a rear arm you will not loose a drive cup, the FG guys know what I am talking about. The Pyrad comes with alloy diff housing and alloy diff case so the gear mesh should always stay true, no flexing here. All the gears, everything in the drivetrain for that matter, looks beefed up and should be able to handle some serious abuse. Another thing I noticed is that all the bearings are sealed, which is nice. Here are some pics of the diff assembly.

Installing the diffs on the chassis. As you can see from the pics the chassis has a stiffing bar running down the center, it also uses two other stiffing bars but that will be later in the build. I mod I did here was with the bulkheads. The bulkheads are attached to the chassis using 3 screws, my feeling was if the screw holes wear over time or the car had a hard landing the bulkheads would separate from the chassis. So what I decided to do was substitute 2 of the screws with a bolt and nut, this should keep the bulkheads where they belong.

can't think who urged you on, does your wife have a gun[&:]
I like the diffs especially the outdrive roller bearings..nice touch. I'm looking forward to how it compares to your other rigs around milestone and hope hurrax fixed the go part...if it turns out to be decent then my wife will be looking for the guy who said it's worth buying one

Managed to get some more done yesterday, I worked on getting the center diff assembled and installed. They used grease on the gears but it is not completely sealed so dirt can and probably will get in there so I opted not to use grease. Like the diffs the drive cups attach to a square axle and the grub screws are used just to keep them in place. Also, you have to love the sealed bearing used throughout the car.

RE: Hurrax Pyrad Build
I finished installing the center diff a couple of days ago and tonight I put the gear carrier together and installed in on the chassis. I also installed the shock towers and the chassis braces. Everything is going together nicely, the fit of the parts thus far has been great.

RE: Hurrax Pyrad Build
On the top plate that the shock towers attach to I installed a bolt with a nut just like I did on the bottom of the bulk heads. I put them through the chassis braces, the factory used long screws but I figured a bolt and nut would make it stronger. They used the screws so it would be easier to get to the diff if needed, my mod will take a couple extra steps when it comes time to take out the diff if needed but I feel it is worth it.
