Default E-Riser Update:

Well guys, I have been really lazy of late. Haven't done anything on the Riser. But I am making another change to it today. I am taking out the counter balance rudder and making a standard setup for it. I think it was a little to squirrelly for me somehow. I don't think I will have it ready for the October 15 Glider fun fly tho.

I went out Saturday and flew my old standby (GP Spectra). It was a great day And I had really good flights on it, and my landings was a whole lot closer for me to walk and get it. Some of the guys helps shag it for me if I have a long landing, but all of my landings was close.

Well, I just run out of money for this month, the E-Riser 100 will not fly again till next spring. And November budget will not allow me to finish it either on the repairs. Being on a set income and all. I am redesigning the tail and taking out the counter balance. I think my motor makes it really squirrelly.

Well, I haven't rally done much through the whole month of October on my Riser, just got to get some wood and sand paper to shore up the tail section. Took the rudder and fin apart and took out the counter balance. This is what it looks like naked and not sanded yet. Going to buy another Riser 100 get this Month from a club member.

Haven't heard anything from your build Pork Chop, did you finish and fly yet.

Porkchop has been seen lately after the men in black took him away for questioning after the unfortunate incident that occurred on his front lawn.

Now, that is funny.
I sent a email mail to that club member about that Riser 100 Kit for sale. Hope he gives me a good deal. Sig sells them for 89.99. I'm hoping maybe around 75.00.

Default New Riser 100 Kit (well new to me)

Just picked up another Riser 100 kit from a club member today for 60.00. I'm a happy camper. That saved me about 45.00 more if I bought new from Sig themselves. Will probably start on that in Late January, early February. After I re-build my first one. Going to get what I need this week sometime.
Went out to the field to get it, was going do some flying with the Spectra. But there were a crap load of biting gnats out there that just got the best of me in 15 minutes. Went home with my kit. And a crap load of welts around my my upper chest area, back of the neck and both arms and face. Any frigging exposed skin they could find.
And it was a perfect day to fly to.

Cell phone doesn't due the picture any justice tho.

Yea, he also has a couple of Spirit 100's. I would like to have one.
I am going to reinforce the body from the nose to just past the f-4 bulkhead (past the trailing edge of the wing) with 1/16 inch Bass wood.

Flyerinokc, I feel like the men in black gave me a going over last month or so, it's been too busy. Aquila, life's been a beach at work, so tired I just come home and relax no building or flying sad to say. $60 on a Riser is a good deal

I opened up the Riser 100 box to check things over and I found the sales receipt in it. Dated 07/17/91, from Corydon, Id. At the time that this guy that had bought it, it cost him $44.95. The club member that sold me it got it from an estate sale.

Original owner must have been a bachelor or he would have hid the receipt better! ;-)

I've still got to get my planes out of the car, lows getting here at night. 25 to 30 degrees. Highs around 45-50 degrees. Looks like Wednesday might be a good time to fly for me. A little chilly but winds will be around 6-7mph. Do all I can before the snow flies or it gets really cold.

I still haven't empty the car out yet. I have been lazy as heck. Where I was building my plane last year in the back bedroom, all the stuff is going to the front bedroom. I got a new queen size mattress and that is going to be setup in the backroom instead.

That is all that has been going on with me right now.

Default Looking over the Plans!

Hello all;

Hope everyone is doing okay and had a wonderful Christmas. Well, I am looking over the plans of the new Riser 100. And I am thinking about extending my nose of the plane by approx. 5/8 of a inch. And widen at the nose just a little for the Glider Drive motor better.

I was thinking of making a little more room in the nose for my battery and ESC better.
Just a thought.

In the diagram the measurements of 1-7/8" is the length of the motor and the 5/8" is from the F-1 bulkhead to the front of the motor. And I was thinking of 1/8" triangle stock from the F-2 bulkhead to the firewall that I will be making for the motor, top, bottom and both sides. And from the F-2 and on back past the F-4 will be 1/4" Tri. Stock.

I know, to much wood maybe. This is all just in the planning stage, nothing set in concrete yet. I usually go over the plans this way before I start building for about a month. Probably start in late February now since a friend that has to much on his plate to build a glider for himself, so he ask me to do it for him. Right now he is helping to build a Gasser for his grandson and also he building a 12 foot B-26 bomber. He has never really flown a glider before till last year when I let him fly my Spectra. And he liked it.

I scanned the part of the plans as to what I am talking about.

Hey, Porkchop. Did you ever get around and maiden your Riser yet. Haven't heard anything.

David,

No, I've been a slacker haven't built or flown anything since early summer last year! I've been busy doing other things, my benches in the garage are stacked up with everything other than the kitchen sink!

I also sliced of the nose of the Riser and built in a few degrees of downthrust. I replaced the Sig F-1 with a 1/4" ply reinforced with balsa triangular stock. I regret not building some sort of cowl though.

I'm going to build this second 100 sometime, but I threw my back out again. This time it is taking some time to heal. Hope to have both Riser's ready my May, I hope.

But I'm also guilty of laziness.

I've been looking at this kit for the past few months now, hoping one of these will go up for sale on RC groups or RC Universe but no luck so far.
Just wait until I buy the kit on line and one will show up in the classified sure as the sun rises. Just after Christmas I bought a Kadet Senior from Sig during their 10% off sale and the next week one went up on RC Groups for 70.00.
Go figure.
Anyway I've been looking at this kit and a couple at Skybench Aerotech but I think I will go with the Riser 100 .
I have a GP Spectra and D-J Aerotech 2m Chrysallis( spoilers).
I want to get into something larger than 2m.
