On a 3 channel sailplane elevater, rudder, spoilers what controll setup is recomended? Should I put elevator and rudder on right stick and spoilers on left, or just use the standard type two controlls.

It's fairly universal to put the elevator and rudder on the right stick for rudder/elevator gliders and any that don't have ailerons. And it's often popular to put the spoiler on the throttle stick.

A buddy of mine went against convention years ago and put the rudder function where it usually is. He did this from day one as he started out flying gliders. He said that he planned to learn to fly more than just rudder/elevator airplanes and figured it was more logical to have the rudder control where it was going to be on most models. Turns out that when he started flying models with ailerons, he had about 10 minutes of acclimation and from then on was good to go. Matter of fact, when he started flying power, he used the rudder like a pro whereas a lot of guys never learn to use it.

I've put my spoilers on a switch, on a 3 position switch, on the throttle stick, and on a dial. I can't really think of anything bad about any of the choices.

Well..... the dial is a bit awkward.

When I have the opportunity, I find the 3 position switch to be my preference.

The throttle stick seems to give the most control, and it does, but I've yet to find a need to have that accuracy. Most of my spoiler equipped gliders didn't actually respond in a linear way, but did great with just down, "about half", and full. And at the time I felt the desire to fiddle around with the spoilers, the workload didn't allow time to fiddle. It was counterproductive to be trying to fly the glider with the spoiler stick. Just flipping the switch to the "about half" setting takes no time and no interruption to the thought process just when I needed to be thinking about twiddling the pitch and roll and yaw.

On my 6XA transmitters, I installed these index pointers on the channel 6 knob, so I can feel where the knob is.

I've cut deeper notches into the left sticks ratchet. Spoilers on a sailplane are closed with the stick full up. Open with the stick to the bottom. This mimics full size spoiler levers. Rudder and elevator on the right stick. What are you buiding?
