Hi all,
I covered my EPP glider wing today with Profilm, but have a slight wrinkle problem.
Basically, I have covered the wing both sides, & set the iron on a higher heat to shink, this works, but when I turn the wing over wrinkles appear on the other side?
I am wondering if I have not got the iron hot enough, & I am spending too much time which is allowing heat to build up in the EPP? Does anyone have any advice on this? I have tried some test pieces, but putting the iron temperature up shink it quicker, but it looks a bit too tight.
Many thanks.
Ian.

Never tried epp foam, but, when covering other foam it's either really tight or wrinkly. Might need spars or stiffeners in the wing if it's flexible type of foam or wings can flex a little to much causing wrinkles on one side or the other. Have to be carefull of temp as well. As I say, never used epp foam, but on other foams, it can suddenly melt without warning and those melted spots will show up as wrinkles in the covering. Good luck with your project though, sorry I can't be of more help for you.

Hi CBMRacing,
Many thanks for your reply!
I removed the wrinkled Profilm off of 1 wing tip, & the EPP has not melted, but I am sure you are absolutely right regarding the wing flexing & needing more support. I have noticed this along the trailing edge where the EPP tapers to about 2mm, & if I were to build this same model again, I think I would cut the trailing edge right back, & replace it with a balsa trailing edge.
I purchased this model to learn to fly with, so it is likely to take a lot of abuse anyway, & when I have learnt, I will treat myself to something better.
Thanks again.
Ian.
