Default Century .30 for 1st timer???

After flying planes for afew years I'm going to take the jump into copters
Hobby Shop "A" says start with a .60 maching $1500-$2500
All .30 are junk, don't waste your money, you'll get bored

Hobby Shop "B" says buy a Century combo kit $700 well
made and easy to get parts, after 2-3 years a might get bored.

Who the heck is right???
Whats the best way to start? I only work on MAC's so any
sim's are out.
Thanks

Of the 2, most would steer you to the 30 size heli. hawk or raptor

Personally i think the best starter heli is somewhere in between those two extreems.

Have a look at the the 50 sized Raptor or Scedeu they are based ona the 30 sized frames, but use bigger engine blades and boom. Arguably the best of both worlds.

My opinion: You can't go wrong with the Century Hawk Sport. I've been flying helis' for several years having started with a GMP Cricket (yuck!), am now flying a Hawk Sport. For the beginner you just can't go wrong. You're not going to outgrow the Hawk Sport for a while. Maybe never, depending on what kind of flying you are into later on.

You definitely want to stay away from a 60 size machine unless you're made of money. More money to buy, maintain, and buy fuel for. You need to put in a fair amount of time when just getting started and you don't need the extra expense. A 60 size machine is definitely going to fly better than a 30 size machine but will be much more expensive to repair and maintain when you crash. A 50 size machine might be a good choice also, not that much more expensive all around. But you can always sell your Hawk later if you want to move up to a 60 machine later. In the mean time you'll be better off starting with a less expensive heli from a psychological standpoint. No one wants to wad up a $1000 helicopter.

The Hawk Sport works great for me. Although I don't intend to get into any heavy 3D. I'm going into scale helis. I bought the Hawk Sport to learn on.

Hawk Sport was great for me too. I have only put 7 flights on it so far, but am very happy with it.

Just curious. . .would you ever recommend any of those FP micro helis (piccolo, hummingbird, etc) for a beginner? I've seen on some sites fun piccolo helis for $230 with everything but the transmitter (which I have, a Hitec Eclipse 7) and it seems like a good deal. Are they any good or would I be better off with a nitro heli to start with? Any information would be appreciated.

Forget the nonsence. Get a .60 crash it like you stole it. Then you will know where you stand.

Buy a hawk sport, its great to start with and later you can upgrade this heli to do great 3D aerobatics and no I would not recommend anything that dosen't take fuel.

Here I go thinking the whole point was not to crash the heli, especially a .60 sized model.

I would recommend either the Sceadu 50 or Raptor 50. Same power to rate ratio as a 90 size heli. You'll never out grow it and it's capabilies. You will outgrow a 30 size engine really quick then you will have to upgrade. Save all the time and money and just get a 50 size. Almost the same price as a 30 size.

I recently got a Hawk Sport and I love it. I have owned several brands but this thing was only $160.00 brand new pre-built (to some extent). The Raptor 30-50 is a nice heli also, so I am not endorsing brands here. As for getting bored, CopterDoctor (Emile) has like 15-20 30 size helis and I have yet to see him bored. I have never gotten bored either. Just love helis too much, I guess.

I too was flying planes before, and decided to jump into helis.......Just got my hawk and finished building...just waiting for someone to help me out to measure the pitch and paddles and to check everything before my first hovering.... I was going to buy a raptor...but due to $$ i decided to start on hawk sport. It's a great heli start for someone that is on a budget...and talked to different forums...lot of ppl recomended both the hawk and raptor..... =)
